How do you understand the world around you?

You have things called senses that help you take in information around you about that the reality of the world.
What are they?
Sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing
There are more like the ability to sense time and stuff, but these are your basic senses.
With these things that you have, you are able to perceive and understand the world around you.
You make sense of them by piecing all of the info you get together from your senses
Imagine if you didn’t have senses.
What would that be like?
You would have no idea what reality was like right?
Do your senses detect everything that exists around you?
Not even close, although, we can understand a lot and process it.
But there are many things that you need help to sense and pick up on.
We need extra tools to help amplify things that exist to help bring them to light for our senses.
Things microscopes or computers and such.
What are some of these things?
Radio waves.
Photons.
Ultraviolet light.
Gravity.
Radiation
Atoms.
Thoughts.
We have discovered ways to detect these realities, and try and make sense of them.
Think about how many people throughout history never knew about these things.
They had no idea, simply because they couldn’t sense them.
They had to only use their natural senses.
You have access to knowledge and things that many could only dream of.
W
Tonight, we will learn about some other senses that we can have to sense other things that exist.
We are going to
1 Corinthians 2:6–9 NKJV
6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
1 Corinthians 1:6–9 NKJV
6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Paul is still speaking about the wisdom from God and the wisdom from man.

This same topic has been going on for a while now, but in many different ways.
This is important, because wisdom is a big part of life.
Especially for teenagers.
The more you can get good sound wisdom down now, the better your life will be.
It is important to understand and soak in the wisdom from God.
Because His wisdom is far greater than ours.
The book of proverbs tells us that it is more precious than gold.
Are you searching for this wisdom?

Paul’s audience is going to understand only if they are mature.

The more you mature, the more you understand.
The more mature you are, the more wisdom you should have.
Paul points out that this wisdom/knowledge can only come from
My son is seven months, and does not understand tons of things.
You guys are teenagers, and understand more than he does.
There are things you do not understand right now as teenagers, even if you think you might.
The question is, are you mature enough to handle and understand the things that Paul is speaking of?
It is implied the Corinthians are not.
They think they are, because they are still thinking with their own understanding.
Is it possible that there is something wrong with the Corinthians, and there is something they need?
Something that Paul is trying to tell them.

Paul speaks of a wisdom that is a mystery.

The idea of a mystery here is something that was hidden, or covered, but is now revealed.
The wisdom of God is a mystery
It has always existed with God.
Proverbs 8:22–28 NKJV
22 “The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. 23 I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth. 24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were no fountains abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was brought forth; 26 While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, Or the primal dust of the world. 27 When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28 When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the fountains of the deep,

proverbs 8:22-28
There is more here than the wisdom of God.
2. The wisdom of God is a myster
The truths of God.
I believe that it is more being talked about here than just God’s wisdom.
proverbs 8
That is a big part of this passage and life.
But I believe that Paul is speaking about more than this.
Other awesome realities.

Paul says that God is going to reveal things, hidden before the age, that eye has not seen, nor ear has heard.

Paul is speaking about our senses.
Eyes allow us to see, and ears to hear.
With this “hardware”, you have the ability to sense greater realities.
Imagine being both blind and deaf.
Can we think of someone who was both?
Helen Keller.
She was limited in what her senses were.
She had no idea about things that we take for granted everyday.
Like those people throughout history who have never seen an atom, or observed radio waves.
How would they react?
How would you explain it to them.
It should be mind blowing.
That is how learning things about God should be.
That is how learning things about God should be.
These truths should have that same response.
The is a greater reality that we can have access to.
God is the greater reality.
From Him come things that we could never fathom.
But we are blind to the access.
Think about what what goes beyond what we have discovered.
We have barely scratched the surface.
Things like physics and quantum physics.
Science can only detect natural things.
There are things that are metaphysical.
This means “beyond” the physical realm.
Or supernatural.
These things no eye can see, or ear can hear.
They go beyond any device that we can use to amplify for our senses.
This blows my mind.

Lets study the Mantis Shrimp.

It is neither a mantis nor a shrimp.
It is weird looking, but has the most developed eye that we know of.
Humans can only see one focal point in each eye, giving us what we call “binocular vision.”
Mantis shrimp has three points per eye, giving them six focal points, and something that can only be “sextocular” vision.
Humans can see 3 color wavelengths, while the Mantis Shrimp can see 12.
This is nine more beyond our limit.
What does that mean?
It has the capability to see millions of more colors than a human even knows exists.
Imagine that, there are colors that exist that you cannot even know.
How do you process that?
You can’t describe colors.
How do you explain red/blue/pink/yellow, etc.?
You can’t, for they are what we use to describe reality.

Paul is saying that there are truths of God, that are beyond our natural senses.

What do we think some of these are?
God’s Grace.
Eternal Life.
These are things that aren’t natural, that we can just know about.
Imagine if you went back in time and showed someone something like the internet?
How would they react?
How would you explain it to them.
It should be mind blowing.
That is how learning things about God should be.
These truths should have that same response.
The is a greater reality that we can have access to.
God is the greater reality.
From Him come things that we could never fathom.
But we are blind to the access.

How do we have access to these realities that God reveals?

The wisdom and truth of God goes beyond our understanding and senses.
1 Corinthians 2:10–16 NKJV
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:10–12 NKJV
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

The way to have access to this greater reality is through God’s Spirit.

I like to call it “Spirit Senses.”
That is an extra sense that we can have, but are not born with.
God has a mind and thoughts, and we do not know unless He tells us.
It is important to understand your need for the Holy Spirit.

Paul says it is like the mysteries of the mind.

Only you truly know what you think.
Obviously except God.
I can only guess what you are thinking
.
It is estimated that the average person thinks between 15,000-70,000 thoughts per hour.
That is consciously and subconsciously.
That is a lot of information to keep track of.
You literally have a lot going through your mind.
But can I see your mind?
But
Not even close.
I cannot sense the mysteries of your mind.
They are real though, but a mystery.
How can I understand your mind’s thoughts?
By conveying them in words.
That is the only way.
If you lie with your words, I will never know the mysteries of your mind.

God has a mind, and has communicates to us with words as well.

How does He do this?
The Bible.
His revealed word.
By reading and studying the Bible, we have access to the mind, and thoughts of God.

Paul says that the Holy Spirit is the one Who teaches the Bible.

Think about that,
It is not me, the pastor.
I am not the one.
I am not able to do this.
God’s Holy Spirit reveals the truths of the Bible.
People can read the Bible, but not have the spiritual impact it is meant to have.

It is like wifi/internet.

The internet exists as its own reality.
It is invisible to all of our senses.
1 cor 2:
1 Corinthians 2:13–16 NKJV
13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
It is invisible to all of our senses.
It is invisible to all of our senses.
But is is really it’s own world and universe of information and human knowledge.
What do you need to access this dimension?
A computer/phone.
Something that has the hardware to puck up on the signal and then convert it into something that we can understand.
The Holy Spirit of God, and all that comes with Him is like the internet.
To some a poor example, but i is hard to compare things to how great God is.
It is invisible, and intangible to make sense of.
The Bible is like a computer or tablet or whatever, making sense of the frequency in your life.
It is one of the main ways to make sense of the spiritual realities.
We could lose the ability to access and sense the internet, but it would still exist.

How do we have access to the Spirit of God?

We must have the Holy Spirit born in us, repairing that part of man that
A

When God created mankind, He created us with the ability to have access to His Spirit…Then we lost it.

When we sinned, we lost that ability to sense the spiritual realm.
We had access.
Then sin jammed it/
When we sinned, we lost that ability.

The natural man cannot sense the things of the Spirit.

The internet exists as its own reality.
This is a dangerous place to be.
It is invisible to all of our senses.
The problem is that we are all born this way.
What does losing connection to the Spirit, and spiritual deny us?
Access to God Himself.
God is life.
We lose access to life and truth.

How do we have access to the Spirit of God?

We must be born again.
We must have the Holy Spirit born in us, repairing that part of man that was
We must have the Holy Spirit born in us, repairing that part of man that
How do you do this?
The problem is that a
Repenting, or turning from your sins, and putting your faith in Jesus Christ.

A big problem is that lot of Christians that have access to the Spirit, turn off their connection.

They go back to their basic senses.
Live as the natural man.
Live as the natural man.
Live as the natural man.
Walk in the flesh.
Choose to not live like they have been exposed to greater reality.
Neglect prayer, study of the Bible, church.
This is a dangerous place to be.
There is no growth.
Where there is no growth, life starts to wither.
It is like having wifi connection, but turning it off.
What good does that do me and you?
