ARE YOU A LEADER WORTH FOLLOWING?

FACT 1: I have participated in every bad decision I’ve ever made

FACT 2: Self-leadership is hard because I live with myself

FACT 3: If you want to lead others well, you have to lead yourself well

Matthew 7:3–5 NLT
“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

5 STEPS TO LEAD YOURSELF WELL

1. Tell yourself the truth

PROBLEM: You cannot lead yourself if you lie to yourself

SOLUTION: Good feedback is the best way to grow

2. Pursue your values

PROBLEM: What I want now is rarely what I value most

SOLUTION: Prioritize the ultimate over the immediate

3. Define your success

5. Ask others for help

PROBLEM: Busyness is not a sign of success

SOLUTION: Build into your values

4. Leave your comfort zone

PROBLEM: Comfort does not keep you safe, it keeps you small

SOLUTION: Spend time outside your self

5. Ask others for help

PROBLEM: Insecurities increase in isolation

SOLUTION: Find people that share your values, not just your interests

APPLICATION

QUOTE: Exceptional self-leadership leads to exceptional influence

QUOTE: We rise and fall based on our character
