1500 Illustrations for Biblical Preaching Prayer, Humorous
A little boy was saying his bedtime prayers with his mother: “Lord, bless Mommy and Daddy, and God, GIVE ME A NEW BICYCLE!!!”
Mom: “God’s not deaf, son.”
Boy: “I know, Mom, but Grandma’s in the next room, and she’s hard of hearing!”1026
On Sunday evenings we are systematically walking through 52 q&as and right now we are looking at prayer.
Last week:
What is prayer?
Prayer is pouring out our hearts to God in praise, petition, confession of sin, and thanksgiving.
We looked at the life of Hannah in 1 Samuel and how she expressed herself to the Lord concerning a desired son.
We saw a common method of prayer in the acronym of ACTS
A- adoration
C - confession
T - thanksgiving
S - supplication
Also, there is the acronym pray
P - praise
R - repent
A - ask
Y - yield
Both of the these help us get an intentional structure to this needed discipline of prayer.
SYSTEMS are helpful. Structure and defined times helps us accomplish what matters most
So we know we are to express (pour out) our hearts to the Lord in praise, petition, confession, and thanksgiving.
But what about the heart behind our prayers.
James addresses it a bit in 4:3:
3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Which brings us to our question of the week:
Question 39
With what attitude should we pray?
With love, perseverance, and gratefulness; in humble submission to God’s will, knowing that, for the sake of Christ, he always hears our prayers.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
