Hermeneutics: What Does This Mean?

The art and science of Biblical interpretation.
Hermeneutics is part science and art.
Science Part: It has rules that class
Way used to interpret the Bible.
Textual Criticism: The attempt to discern(perceive or recognize something) the original wording of a text.
The Old Testament was written in Hebrew
The New Testament was written in Greek.
Historical Criticism: The field of study referred to as (Higher Criticism) and that considers authorship, date, and circumstances.
Allegorism: The method of interpreting that regards the literal sense as a vehicle for a second, more spiritual sense.
It is an interpretive method (Exegesis) that assumes that the Bible has varios levels of meaning and tends to focus on the spiritual sense.
Opposed to the Literal Sense.
Literal Interpretation: An interpretation of the exact wording.
Things we look at in interpreting the Bible:
Historical Gap: Is there a gap that we are far removed in the time from the original writers and the sitting.
Cultural Gap: Things that exist between the days of the Ancient Hebrews and Contemporary Society.
Linguistic Gap: The Bible was written in different languages Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
Philosophical Gap: The views of Life, particular circumstances, and the nature of the universe differ among the various cultures.
There are many things we look at studying, and interpreting the Bible.
