Introduction

Transition: The people a God, under the leadership of Moses, a people on the the move- being 2 years, 2 months, and 20 days out of Egypt. The people have begun to wonder if they are really better off now that they have hitched their wagon to the LORD God

Under the leading of the Spirit of God (Cloud by Day and Fire by Night)
Moses is leading God’s uncooperative peoples through the wilderness
The children of Israel thrive and live on instant gratification and short term vision (near sightedness)
Illustrate: Near sightedness
Moses is the children of Israel’s mediator
Moses is a type of Christ (serves as preview of what’s to come)

Transition: Follow me as we walk around the text

Moses and the children of Israel (that which God has contented) are 2 years, 2 months, and 20 days out of Egypt by the time of our text
This name is a combination of the Hebrew words for "wrestle" and"God" (because sareta [you have wrestled] with God [‘el] andmen you will be called yisrael).
Numbers 11:1 ESV
And the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, and when the Lord heard it, his anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.
Numbers 11:4 ESV
Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said, “Oh that we had meat to eat!
Numbers
Rabble = collection of grumblers, with the focus being on their complaint
Illustration: The effect and impact of too much of our focus being on the complaint
Numbers 11:5 ESV
We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.
Do you remember the food you ate in your Egypt?
How do you view God’s food versus your Egypt’s food?
Numbers 11:6 ESV
But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.”
But God called Israel as a covenant community to live and exhibit kingdom life to the world. Israel was to obey and carry out the creation covenant social mandate. Commandments5-7 provided basic guidelines. Within the community, family life was to be fundamental; parents were to teach, train, and discipline their children ( ; ).

Notice Moses does not approach the people first with his concern
Moses first takes the issue, his need, to the LORD in prayer
Numbers 11:10 ESV
Moses heard the people weeping throughout their clans, everyone at the door of his tent. And the anger of the Lord blazed hotly, and Moses was displeased.
Numbers 11:13–15 ESV
Where am I to get meat to give to all this people? For they weep before me and say, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’ I am not able to carry all this people alone; the burden is too heavy for me. If you will treat me like this, kill me at once, if I find favor in your sight, that I may not see my wretchedness.”
Numbers 11:13-15

Share The WORD Of The LORD

Numbers 11
Numbers 11:24 ESV

Obey The WORD Of The LORD

Numbers 11:25 ESV
Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. And as soon as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied. But they did not continue doing it.
Look what happens when we obey the WORD of the LORD

The LORD God provides an answer
The LORD presents His plan to Moses
Jeremiah 29:11–13 ESV
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:11
Moses has the Spirit on him
The LORD God places some of that same Spirit on the elders

Numbers 11:29 ESV

Conclusion

I know somebody whom the Spirit rested and remained on him
His name is Jesus Christ
Mark 1:9–11 ESV
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
