Paul Harvey tells of a 73-year-old man who lived alone and who was pinned under his farm tractor for four days and nights in a freezing rain.  Concerned friends went to check on him.  They were just in time. He apparently survived this ordeal, but will lose a leg below the knee.

The report wasn’t concerned with the fact that the old man had lived after being pinned under his tractor for such a time.  What was so amazing is what caused his friends to go and check on him.  What motivated his friends to go see about him?  He missed “prayer meeting.”  That’s all.  He missed only one service.  There are two primary things we can see in this incident.  One is that he was a faithful member of that church.  Now let me ask YOU:  What if that had been you pinned under that tractor?  When you are not present, does your spiritual family just assume that you have decided to sleep in or go to the lake?  Does your absence alarm people or do you miss so often that no one pays much attention?  Another thing we can see is that this man’s congregation was the kind that kept a close watch on one another.  When you notice someone missing, check on him or her.  Use your telephone.  Or car.  But check. - Ken Joines
