THE WORD, PRIORITY OF

“In the Church of Scotland during the days of the Reformation, there was a tradition that the congregation was seated, the doors were opened, and the Word of God was carried into the service high over the minister’s head.  As the Bible passed, the people stood in reverence for the Word of God.  At the end of the service that Bible was closed and lifted up again over the heads of the clergy.  As the Bible passed, once again the people stood in reverence as the Word of God led the procession out of the church.  From beginning to end the service was Word-centered” (Deuteronomy 32:46-47).
