CONSISTENT LIFE

I recently heard of four scholars who were arguing over Bible translations. One said he preferred the King James Version because of its beautiful, eloquent old English. Another said he preferred the American Standard Bible for its literalism, the way it moves the reader from passage to passage with confident feelings of accuracy from the original text. A third man preferred Moffatt because of its quaint, penetrating use of words, the turn of a phrase that captures the attention of the reader. After giving the issue further thought, the fourth scholar admitted, "I have personally preferred my mother's translation.' When the other scholars chuckled, he responded, "Yes, she translated it. She translated each page of the Bible into life. It is the most convincing translation I ever saw. "

WALT DISNEY’S VISION

When Walt Disney World in Orlando ,FL. opened in 1974, Mrs. Disney was sitting beside Walter Cronkite. Walt Disney has passed away a few years earlier. Walter Cronkite wanted to say just the right thing to Mrs. Disney, so he leaned over to her and said, “Wouldn’t it be great if Walt were here to see this today.” Mrs. Disney wisely replied, “If Walt had not first seen this you would not be seeing it today.”

DRAMA COMPANY     “ For a Drama Company, the performance on the stage is the end to be achieved. The event itself is the goal. It is what they have practiced for and led up to. For such Christians activities as preaching, teaching, or worship, the event itself is not the end to be achieved, it is the means. The goal must be that of accomplishing God’s will in the church and in the lives of people through the particular activity. “

Joseph Ellis, THE CHURCH ON PURPOSE,

LETTING YOUR LIGHT SHINE  Dr. Paul Brand was speaking to a medical college in India on "Let your light so shine before men that they may behold your good works and glorify your Father."  In front of the lectern was an oil lamp, with its cotton wick burning from the shallow dish of oil.  As he preached, the lamp ran out of oil, the wick burned dry, and the smoke made him cough.  He immediately used the opportunity.  "Some of us here are like this wick," he said.  "We're trying to shine for the glory of God, but we stink.  That's what happens when we use ourselves as the fuel of our witness rather than the Holy Spirit.  Wicks can last indefinitely, burning brightly and without irritating smoke, if the fuel, the Holy Spirit, is in constant supply."  -Philip Yancey.

HOMING PIGEONS   A man drove from Niagara Falls to Grimsby, open the tailgate of his truck and took out a pigeon. He caressed it and spoke softly to it then threw it up in the air. It circled, then headed straight for home. After the first was well out of sight, he got out another, the same procedure. He told me that without exception, all the pigeons would be waiting at his address when he got there.
