chapter 33 Again, we'll be looking at 14. 216

behold, the days are coming declares the Lord. When I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. Those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David. And he shall execute Justice and righteousness in the land. Noah's days Jewel be saved in Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which will be called. The Lord is our righteousness.

Today is the first Sunday of Advent. and again, we'll kind of follow-up pattern of the lectionary and will be looking at in particular, we're going to look at some Old Testament passages that Kind of sander or turn our attention towards the coming of this this character is character. Who is the Christ?

Jeremiah Jeremiah is a prophet and outside of looking at Obadiah. For 5 years ago something like that. We've never actually studied prophetic book on Sunday mornings. We studied I think on Wednesday night we went through. And so because because of that we have to take the time to understand the literature of Prophecy. And there's a literally an endless amount of things that I could tell you but I'll I'll Focus my attention to things to things that I think are relevant to what word what we looking at today number one.

The prophets are not like the other books in it dirt. They're more of a collection of worse than they are a singular event. So Romans four examples of letter in the New Testament call inter tell us who actually wrote it down and Hammer that out. Maybe two I would say at the most maybe a week. A singular event you send it away. The rest is history. And it's not like the gospels or or Genesis which are stories. We tell us tell us we took time to put that story together, but it was still kind of in one movement meaning of like a person who was going to write a book If a person writes a book maybe it takes them 6 months, but it's their tasks that makes especially the longer ones Isaiah Jeremiah Ezekiel.

Especially the Major Prophets of the sermon the letters what other people maybe have said about them being really their entire Ministry? And from period of time to the next. Time of the next year time the message that is given by the prophet changes are more sore or move to a new subject. Should be more like lots and lots of books if we would collect his works together into a multi volume. Series right that would be what the processor more life.

Almost chapter 32 and preview. The message is doom and destruction simply put banana chapter 33 the message really fundamentally change it. It fundamentally changes because Jeremiah now has a new task a new group of people.

in a way it really it's the same people just down the road Which leads me to the next point it's very very important for the profits most of the time we think of profits or when we read the prophetic books of the of the Old Testament in in in Revelation. What we most associated with prophecy is for telling the future.

Then you got 12 Minor Prophets. Then what you have earlier earlier and Ezra a lot of Old Testament is actually prefer. The old are actually taking the word of God as they know it in there applying it to the current situation. Almost almost the entirety of Isaiah's is a commentary on the book of Deuteronomy. Which was the scripture that you were saying to our culture? Oh my God was to take Deuteronomy and the truth found in it.

The only exception to that is when they're talking about this particular time today tomorrow next week. and the Next Generation most of the time the next generation is coming from El Paso to look at today.

Which probably 10 minutes late maybe 7:30 and God says no, you're going to speak into your culture and people are going to well nobody's going to listen to you. But but they're going to listen to you. Obey you are nobody's going to change because of your words, which is a Bad Thing forgot to say it.

The preacher whole life. Nobody can listen to you.

different different subject Maybe from the Ageless.

Jeremiah lives a fairly decent life before the fall of Judah to Babylon.

50 years What's going to Jeremiah preaches and that's what the book of Jeremiah is? Is his collected works in for the first 10 years or so his message was going to assault against you and they're going to conquer going to be destroyed.

Because of your your your turning away from me. What's the most common things I think of God in the Old Testament?

I said it's sort of a a summation statement.

You follow me. I will be your God, but if you don't

I'm going to raise up leaders to punish.

Directions to draw your attention back to me when you think you can accomplish it on your own. You're far less like to look to God for healthy. If I see you when I no longer have a good job.

The people of Israel for a very long time had turned away from God. Actually speaking were talking about Jeremiah talking to the southern Kingdom of Judah are the first three kings of Israel and they rule What's called the United Nation? picture of the 13 colonies in the United States becoming the United States the term United States means there's 13 states that are now becoming United you think about it literally That's essentially what happened between him and Sons General and he's like the north to tribes in the south north dakotans Israel south of Judah. 711 711

then they come to the door part of the doorstep of Judah and they're knocking at like we're coming in. We're going to rule you. And there's a bunch of people of Judah. We're going to be destroyed by the Assyrians in surprisingly at least someone.

And so God raises up Babylon stops the Assyrian assault in for about a hundred years. There's a little bit of And then the people of Israel again, they turn their backs on God and God raises up Babylon to come in the late 16th century. Like I sent you the early 6th Century 585 90s, BC.

Babylon is knocking at the door in Jeremiah has given this charge. Tell the people of Israel with their doing wrong and they need to change. Jeremiah has this terrible past. Basically you're going to tell him they're not going to listen, but you need to tell him anyway. That kind of show us God's mercy.

That he still.

Doing this to us all the time. He's constantly spirit of God is constantly enter your tallest man. And what we do.

So Jeremiah is getting this message.

Many people whenever whenever Isaiah says who talks about the suffering servant, he's actually talking about the man Jeremiah.

now there's a secondary meaning to that German Shepherds hatred and ridicule Jeremiah chapter 20 is one of my favorite passages of scripture 21st, 9 is my like my Pastor verse Idiot turns guys, I can't believe you deceived me and Dupree.

and weary Italian people I don't want to anymore, but I went up in my bones. I must I must let you know. And it goes on for many more years probably another 10 15 20 years. He preaches this message again and again and again and again.

Sometimes it's confusing for us and I want to make sure I emphasize what this is what this actually is actually is we went to the Book of Romans in Romans has a pretty serious pretty specific message. Right? It's it's not very very, you know, if you would study the book of Corinthians.

It's not what I mean what I say. She preached the same message.

You sexually Jeremiah had a manuscript that maybe he had an actual manuscript probably not. It's probably just a repetition of the same song again and again and again. 1520 repent

transom imagine from an about preachers, you know way back in the 50s and 60s. 60s, sorry. Who would stand on so boxes in the on the street and preach the sermons of Doom and Gloom and try to get people to turn away from their sin right with you set a time. Matching this for years at a time saying man getting up every single day in preaching the same message again and again and again at your Skinner's turn away from God. He starts 82

This is the first generation of Jeremiah speaks to people who won't listen.

People won't listen until destruction happen.

Search open up our eyes.

I think probably most of us have experienced this in some level or another where we get a little bit in a little bit arrogant. Start to think to ourselves. Are you been at your job for a year or two and then all the sudden you don't?

Temple in the car people do this mine never be destroyed because God is God. There's no other like him. He's the almighty. He certainly can't be destroyed and then all the sudden everything is literally been ripped out from underneath.

Many of them are hauled away from Jerusalem all the way across to another part of the world in Babylon.

This is to Jeremiah speaking to in chapter 33 verse 14 16. Send this message. before the destruction

But it wasn't for the people before the destruction. for the people

Monster eyes started to open back up once their necks were no longer so stiff. stubborn and I started to look around Searcy. Where's God

This is what we call the message of. Hope within every single profit. Basically, the pattern of prophets is message a struction message B. God still.

We should in the first verse year in verse 14. Just behold the days are coming. Now this is another one of them phrases media hebrewism.

In the prophets that you see repeated a lot. The days are coming. This closes into Jeremiah is not talking to the people. He's actually talking to he's talking to the people in the future.

Not 2000 years future but one generation future the people who you're going to be the one that destroyed if you're still living when you're in destruction.

Behold the days are coming.

all the presidents of existence we don't have a very good translation behold is boring and they is not every time every time I come across this I have to tell you guys this because I don't want you to forget it. It's like it's like when when you're dozing off. And I come in the room.

I got some of the new ones coming.

That's what it is. It's pay attention is what the term is what the walk and run or probably walk in Sprint action in in Hebrew. It's the same.

There comes a day or the right way. The day is coming.

The message before this is a message to Jeremiah.

but this message Call yeah I get too cold.

Unfortunately, nobody's going to listen to even this message had at least. A day is coming. Declares the Lord or three phrases in this that just should should everybody's ears should be turned. How old are comes today in declares Yahoo? God speaks. listen not going to ask you to listen. I'm going to tell you. God speaks listen Sister comes to the days the day is coming the days are coming when I will fulfill the promise. I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.

wickedness won't have freedom rain in rule like it does today. You will establish righteousness because it's one thing to punish wickedness. It's another thing to replace.

You see the people of Israel. They've been they've been led by these these kings and we're all right.

led the people away from idol worship in sinfulness, but if we were to describe the Kings From David until this point as a whole unit. We say they say it. In for the people of Israel who are hearing this message again in Babylonian captivity. They sailed not just partially but in tired.

Instead they had weak inferior case then seek after God ultimately LED them into this destruction. Is King who will come this descendant this branch of David will execute Justice and righteousness and leave? That sounds pretty good.

Sounds exciting especially as you see the destruction around you especially as you think the pop think about how everything around me seems to have collapsed. the first part of 16 and goes on a little bit and it says in those days it will be

I think that sometimes we forget that we live in this already but not yet.

Every every Christmas movie has one one message that this season we should all be the best people that we can be. And most of those movies are not Christian.

But that message could not be more Christian. Message of Christ reentering into creation is the most beautiful story when you think about how it affects our lives. I started saying this last week and I'm sure I'll mention it again as we continue on in this Advent season that there's this there's this picture that happens in the Incarnation.
