SO GREAT A SALVATION

Date: 10-01-06 – PPHC A.M.

Heb. 2:1– 4

“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.2 For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; 3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?”

Too many people treat their salvation just like a kid would treat a Christmas toy. They spend a lot of time with it for a few days, and lay it aside and disregard it. God help us to "work out our own salvation".

In this message, we look at some things that make our salvation so great.

I. Great Because of Its Preparation...

A. God Planned It In Eternity Past... 2 Tim. 1:9

1. “Who hath saved (sozo – to restore, to rescue) us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given(didomi – committed to us) us in Christ Jesus before the world began,”  (For he  knows our frame ; he remembers that we [are] dust. Ps. 103:14)

 B. Jesus Purchased It At Calvary...l Cor. 15:3-4

1. “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our

sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third

day according to the scriptures:”

a. (Muhammad, Buddha, Confucius, Mahatma Gandhi, Bahá'u'lláh – in common?;  they died

and were buried…but Christ died, was buried AND lives forever more!!!)

C. The Holy Spirit Presented it...John 16:8

1. “And when he is come, he will reprove (elegcho – to convict) the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:”

(As Jesus wrote in the sand, the Spirit convicted the accusers; as Paul stood before Gov. Felix, the Spirit convicted him and he trembled; As Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost…PRICKED in their hearts…3,000 were saved!!!)

II. Salvation Is Great Because of Its Price...

A. He gave His BODY to bear our sins…1 Pet. 2:24

1.“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins,

should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. (The Grk. wording emphasizes Jesus’

personal involvement. – STRIPES – in the singular: Our salvation wasn’t from the day-to-day sufferings; nor from the giving of His back

to the smiters…our salvation comes from the WOUND. The ultimate wound – DEATH – through His death we have been given LIFE)

B. He gave His blood to blot my sins…Rev. 1:5

1. “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and

the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in

his own blood,” (Heb. 9:22 – without the shedding of blood, there is no remission)

C. He gave His being to banish my sins...John 1:29

1. “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which

taketh away the sin of the world.

By His body, He lifted our sins from the fabric of our lives; By His blood, He removed the stain of sin from our lives and separated it from us; Took away our sins as far as the East is from the West. (Ps. 103:12)

III. Salvation Is Great Because Of Its Prospect… (Its HOPE)
Heb 2:9

“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”

It will save:

A. The rich like Zacchaeus...Luke 19:1-10

B. The ruined like the Samaritan woman... John 4

C. The religious like Nicodemas...John 3

D. The rebellious like the Prodigal...Luke 15

E. The rest of them...like us...Rev. 22:17

1. “…and let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life

freely.”

IV. Great Because Of Its Plan...

A. Realize you are a sinner...Rom. 3:23

1. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

(Can’t help an alcoholic until he realizes that he is an alcoholic)

B. Realize the wages of sin is death... Rom. 6:23

1. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our

Lord.”

C. Realize that you cannot save yourself...Eph 2:8-9

1. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not

of works, lest any man should boast.”

D. Realize Christ died to save you...l Cor. 15:3

1. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our

sins according to the scriptures;

E. Repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith...John 1:11-12

1. “He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them

gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”

In Salvation, He is born in us, and we are born into Him.
