Luke 1:28–33 NKJV
And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Rejoice!
The word is a greeting, but also a verb. The angel was saying rejoice in this.
She was troubled at his saying, what manner of greeting this was. Why are you telling me to rejoice?
Why rejoice?
Highly favored
The Lord is with you
You are blessed
Mary did not know how God viewed her. She was unaware. We can be blind to how God looks upon us...
found favor.
Jesus - He will save His people from their sins. Emmanuel God with us. Jesus - Jehovah saves.
You have something to rejoice in today.
Jesus is with you.
You are blessed.
You have found God’s favor.
1 Peter 2:7 NKJV
Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,”
1 Peter 2:9–10 NKJV
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
To the believer “He is precious”.
You are chosen, royal, holy, His own, called out of darkness into His light.
Before you were not a people, you had no place, you didn’t fit anywhere, you were sheep scattered without a pasture to call home. Lost. But now....found.
In a merciless world…But now. You have obtained mercy.
Isaiah 9:2 NKJV
The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.
I want to tell someone here today Rejoice!
Rejoice! You were walking in darkness, you were living in the land of the shadow of death. But now you have seen the light, the light has shined upon you.
Rejoice! Because you have found favor, because He is with you, because you are chosen, because you are royal, because He called you out of darkness, because He has made you his own special people and calls you the people of God!
2018 may have been a hard year… We have something to rejoice about!
