SPEAK TO NEED
Many Christians believe that hope is wishing for something they are never going to get. That our suffering is in vain.
Romans 5:3–5 ESV
3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
OUR EXPECTATION MUST BE BASED ON SOMETHING TRUSTWORTHY OR OUR HOPE WILL BE SHORT LIVED.
Help us LORD!!!
PLEASE STAND WITH ME FOR THE READING OF GOD’S HOLY WORD!
1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 ESV
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
State Key Verse: Therefore encourage one another with these words. (1 Thes 4:18)
I like to preach this morning as the Holy Spirit guides from the thought...
State the Title: The Right Words! <Tell somebody near you… Thank you for the encouraging words this year!!!

HOPE LIVES

Prayer of Illumination: Father, send your Holy Spirit and fill us that our hearts are receptive to your word. Help me to be faithful to your word, give me clarity needful for our journey, give me your power to preach with the authority you have given, and passion for your glory to be revealed, guide us by your wisdom, may I decrease and you INCREASE LORD JESUS and set all captives free, loosen every chain in Jesus name.
INTRODUCTION
STORY OF CHILD IN THE GROCERY STORE ASKING FOR COOKIES.... Matthews Gospel is taking what generations been talked about to show that it happened for the world to see!
PAUL sees the seed of mature spiritual life ready to sprout ......
Who: The gospel according to Luke is the third account of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was originally the first scroll of a two-volume work (the second scroll being Acts). These volumes are one quarter of the New Testament. The Holy Spirit led Paul’s physician friend, Luke, to author the Third Gospel. Luke is the only gentile author of NT. They are both written to “most excellent Theophilus” or translated “beloved of God.” Someone who is a believer of high social status. The original readers are likely Gentiles as Luke explains Jewish customs.
What: The Gospel of Luke stress the blessing of salvation of God which Jesus Christ brings in response to faith. Salvation brings healing from disease, liberation from demonic control, restoration of life from death, rescue from disaster, and forgiveness of sins.
When: Luke joined Paul on his second missionary journey in Troas and accompanied him to Philippi (Acts 16:10). The Gospel of Luke was written around (AD 58-62)
Where: From Macedonia
Why: In previous section the question on brotherly love (love one another, live quietly, mind your own affairs work with your hands) this section Paul responds to the second question of the Thessalonians. What will happen to “the dead in Christ”? The reply implies that between the foundation of the church and the return of Timothy, some member or members of the church had died, an event that caused much sorrow among them (v. 13). The author of the letter encouraged the believers to comfort one another with the teaching on the coming of the Lord and the resurrection of the dead in Christ (v. 18). The possible cause of death was the persecution the church endured, although the text may only hint that some had met martyrdom (see the commentary on v. 15). What is not clear is why the church did not understand the fundamental points of Christian eschatology.

OUR TEXT TODAY PRESENTS EXPECTATIONS FOR BELIEVERS WHO FALL ASLEEP IN THE LORD. BUT, WHAT ARE THESE EXPECTATIONS THAT CAN STRENGTHEN OUR HOPE IN CHRIST? WE MUST...

I. EXPECT TO LIVE (vv. 13-14)

A. ________ THERE ARE MANY DISRUPTIONS TO OUR QUALITY OF LIFE; DEBT, SICKNESS, PROBLEMS, AND DISAPPOINTMENTS CAN STEAL OUR JOY AND TAKE THE WIND OUT OF OUR SAIL. OUR SAVIOR CAME WITH ONE ULTIMATE PURPOSE AND THAT IS FOR US TO LIVE.

John 10:10 ESV
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

YET DEATH HAS HAD THE LAST WORD UNTIL CHRIST, BUT NOW SOMETHING GREATER AWAITS US.

Hebrews 9:27–28 ESV
27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
look at our text,
1 Thessalonians 4:13–14 ESV
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
Asleep is a euphemism for death used by both pagans, Jews, and Christians. For Pagans/ Non Beleivers there was no awakening; there was no hope beyond the grave.

B. FOR US DEATH IS NOT A PERMANENT STATE OF BEING BUT TEMPORARY, IT MAY INTERRUPT BUT NOT TERMINATE THE LIFE OF GOD’S PEOPLE.

God has worked this out in Christ. We don’t face death with despair, but with hope in what God can and will do, grounded in what he has already do through Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:20 ESV
20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Philippians 1:21–23 ESV
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.

C. I DON’T EXPECT TO JUST BE BREATH, I EXPECT TO LIVE LIFE WELL IN CHRIST JESUS. HOPE LIVES _________! GREATER IS HE WHO IS IN ME THAN HE WHO IS IN THE WORLD. THE LIFE IN SIDE OF ME IS CHRIST AND FOR ME TO LIVE IS CHRIST AND TO DIE IS GAIN! WE WIN EITHER WAY!!!

OUR TEXT TODAY PRESENTS EXPECTATIONS FOR BELIEVERS WHO FALL ASLEEP IN THE LORD. BUT, WHAT ARE THESE EXPECTATIONS THAT CAN STRENGTHEN OUR HOPE IN CHRIST? WE MUST...

II. EXPECT TO BE REUNITED WITH LOVED ONES (vv. 15-17)

A. ______ Separation from loved ones can be especially difficult around the holidays and family celebrations. But our loved ones in Christ; grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends

Amen Somebody…? Ouch?
Philippians 2:9–10 ESV
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
watch this:
1 Thessalonians 4:15–17 ESV
15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

B. OUR DESTINY IS NOT DEATH BUT LIFE FOREVER WITH THE LORD..

1 Corinthians 15:51–52 ESV
51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

C. I EXPECT TO SEE MY MOTHER, MY SISTER, AND MY GRANDMOTHER AGAIN! HOPE LIVES___________! YES, ONE DAY MY WEEPING WILL TURN TO REJOICING. AND THE POLITICIANS NOR DID THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS KNEW WHAT THE LORD HAD DONE. DR. E.K. BAILEY ONCE SAID, “If you are not obeying what God has already revealed to you, there is no way you will know whit he wants to reveal to you” Mark 4:25 - To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given.

III. EXPECT TO BE ENCOURAGED (vv. 18)

A. _______ Many people may choose to walk life or this Christian journey alone, but there is a cost to isolation.

1 Peter 5:7–9 ESV
7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

To walk alone is to be disconnected the provision of God’s loving family.

Hebrews 10:25 ESV
25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Look; we are commanded to to encourage one another...
1 Thessalonians 4:18 ESV
18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
But we are also instructed how to encourage one another; with these words. Words of life, words of comfort, words of victory, words of hope.

B. GOD DOES NOT SHARED WITH US FUTURE EVENTS TO SATIFY OUR CURIOSITY, BUT THAT WE MIGHT ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER WITH THE RIGHT WORDS THE RIGHT MESSAGE.

Like Christ we encouage
John 14:1 ESV
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
John 14:27 ESV
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Better days are ahead of us...
Revelation 21:4 ESV
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

C. HOPE LIVES _________? I EXPECT TO BE ENCOURAGED BECAUSE THERE IS MORE LIFE AHEAD OF US! DEATH NO LONGER HAS THE FINAL WORD; BUT THANKS BE TO GOD WHO HAS GIVEN US THE VICTORY THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. THEREFORE, BE STEADFAST UNMOVABLE EVER ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF THE LORD KNOW THAT OUR LABORS ARE NOT IN VAIN IN HIM( 1 Cor 15:57-58). THERE IS MORE LIFE AHEAD OF YOU__________.

Recapitulation: OUR EXPECTATIONS THAT CAN STRENGTHEN OUR HOPE IN CHRIST when we expect to live, we expect to be reunited with loves, and when we expect to be encouraged and comfort on this journey.
Exhortation ; That’ll Preach! Final Application
All of us most confront our own mortality! For believer to die is gain (Phil 1:21, 23). There are indeed difficult questions for us concerning death, but the good news is God has already conquered death in the resurrection of his Son.
Therefore we too can sing with affirmation Our Hope in Christ; because he lives I can face tomorrow, because he lives all fear is gone, because I know He holds the future. And this life is worth living just because he lives.
In God providence He cares for us and has given us a glimpse an early look of things to come. We can function today in light of what we know about God’s plan for the future.
Many Christians today are in the checkout line. They are ready to check out on God, check out of the church, check out on their faith, but we must not forget to stop, look up, and call on Jesus and wait to see what God does.
GOD CAME TO BE WITH US, BUT HE DIED, ROSE AGAIN, AND COMING BACK AGAIN SO THAT WE CAN FOREVER BE WITH HIM!
WITH HIM THERE IS LIFE
WITH HIM THERE IS COMFORT
WITH HIM THERE IS VICTORY OF DEATH AND THE GRACE
WITH HIM THERE IS STRENGTH TO MAKE IT
MY HOPE LIVE IN CHRIST JESUS WHO IS COMING BACK SO THAT WE ALL CAN BE FOREVER WITH HIM!
