-We are going to take 1 session per month to focus on leadership training and developing.
-I am encouraging all of the small group leaders to be here even though it applies to all of us.
-All of us are leaders in some fashion as Christians.
-We are all to lead people to Jesus by our lives and witness.
-Some lead families, small groups, businesses, departments or whatever.
-A leader: someone who has others following him.
-Leadership is influence.
-To lead: to guide on a way especially by going in advance, to be first in or among, provide guidance or direction.
Matthew 28
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in a the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

NCV says go and make followers of all the people in the world.
-In other words go lead them.
2 Timothy 2
/You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. [2]/

-That is four generations of leadership.

-John 17 is known as the high priestly prayer of Jesus. In it He prays for the disciples He chose out of the world.
-Rather than mass evangelism Jesus chose a different way to impact the world.
-He chose 12 men to pour His life into and then through those men to reach and impact the world.
-Jesus is patient but He was also thorough. He knew that for the long term the best way to do it was to raise up leaders with His heart who would keep raising up leaders.
PERSONAL EXAMPLE
I CAME TO A DILEMNA A FEW YEARS AGO AND I DESIRED TWO LIVES. I HAD THINGS TO DO AND I REALIZED THAT THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD DO EVERYTHING IN MY HEART BY MYSELF. I REALIZED THAT THE VISION AND DREAMS GOD HAD PLACED IN ME TO OVERSEE WERE MORE THAN I COULD DO. THE ONLY WAY TO REACH THEM WAS WITH HELP.
Exodus 18
Now Jethro, the priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses, heard of everything God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, and how the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt.
2 After Moses had sent away his wife Zipporah, his father-in-law Jethro received her 3 and her two sons. One son was named Gershom, a for Moses said, “I have become an alien in a foreign land”; 4 and the other was named Eliezer, b for he said, “My father’s God was my helper; he saved me from the sword of Pharaoh.”
5 Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, together with Moses’ sons and wife, came to him in the desert, where he was camped near the mountain of God. 6 Jethro had sent word to him, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons.”
7 So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed down and kissed him. They greeted each other and then went into the tent. 8 Moses told his father-in-law about everything the Lord had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel’s sake and about all the hardships they had met along the way and how the Lord had saved them.
9 Jethro was delighted to hear about all the good things the Lord had done for Israel in rescuing them from the hand of the Egyptians. 10 He said, “Praise be to the Lord, who rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians and of Pharaoh, and who rescued the people from the hand of the Egyptians. 11 Now I know that the Lord is greater than all other gods, for he did this to those who had treated Israel arrogantly.” 12 Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, brought a burnt offering and other sacrifices to God, and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law in the presence of God.

13 The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. 14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?”
15 Moses answered him, “Because the people come to me to seek God’s will. 16 Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God’s decrees and laws.”
17 Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him. 20 Teach them the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform. 21 But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. 23 If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.”
24 Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. 25 He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 26 They served as judges for the people at all times. The difficult cases they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves.

-Moses discovered that it wasn’t true what they say;
IF YOU WANT SOMETHING DONE RIGHT, DO IT YOURSELF.
-Our response is; “But I don’t trust others to do it as well as me.”
-The answer, train them.
-Remember in Acts 6 when the revival was stopped. What was the answer? More prayer, more preaching? The answer was a leadership issue.
-The apostles were wise enough to share the load so they could focus on what was most important.

-Jesus was a great leader because He was always training and delegating work.
-You have to believe that you are really helping people when you release a job to them.
-When you lead you are willing to accept final responsibility and share the credit.
-Insecure people won’t get others to help them because they are afraid they won’t be recognized.
-I saw early on in the life of this church that I had to find leaders who had followers and pour myself into them.
-The problem is; it is voluntary and at any time a leader can take his followers and turn them against you, whether that is 5 or 50.
-It is still a risk worth taking.

-Paul told Timothy to look for reliable/faithful men who could share what they have.
1. The first trait of leadership has to be character.
-This is what you are when no one is looking.
-You teach what you know but you impart what you are.
-Grow deeper in your relationship with God and your life as a result of that relationship and you will automatically grow as a leader.
2. The second trait is your example.
-This is teaching with your life.
1 Thessalonians 2
As apostles of Christ we could have been a burden to you, 7 but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. 8 We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us. 9 Surely you remember, brothers, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you.
10 You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. 11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

1 Thessalonians 1
6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia/ and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. -You have to BE WHAT YOU WANT OTHERS TO BECOME.
-You have to go where you want to take your followers.
3. A leader has to have the courage to accept a challenge.
-How many times did God come to people in the Bible and say; “I need your help.”
