1 Samuel 8:1–22 NKJV
Now it came to pass when Samuel was old that he made his sons judges over Israel. The name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judges in Beersheba. But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice. Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah, and said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.” But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day—with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods—so they are doing to you also. Now therefore, heed their voice. However, you shall solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behavior of the king who will reign over them.” So Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who asked him for a king. And he said, “This will be the behavior of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for his own chariots and to be his horsemen, and some will run before his chariots. He will appoint captains over his thousands and captains over his fifties, will set some to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and some to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers. And he will take the best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive groves, and give them to his servants. He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage, and give it to his officers and servants. And he will take your male servants, your female servants, your finest young men, and your donkeys, and put them to his work. He will take a tenth of your sheep. And you will be his servants. And you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you in that day.” Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.” And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he repeated them in the hearing of the Lord. So the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed their voice, and make them a king.” And Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Every man go to his city.”
Prayer
In the Bible the word the kingdom of God is mentioned 168 times. What did Jesus mean when he mentioned about restoring the kingdom of God?
In the western culture we don’t understand much about kingdoms because of the cost of freedom we have suppressed the ideas of kingdoms. God had the plan to set part of His kingdom here on earth. That is why He created earth. What is the benefit of a kingdom?
Give structure of life.
The king leads, direct, is responsible for his kingdom.
The king sustains his kingdom.
The king protects his kingdom.
The term kingdom of God: is it a spiritual kingdom or a physical kingdom. YES
This quarter we will indulge in the word in understanding the kingdom principles. It is very important to understand that without understanding and living the spiritual kingdom principle we will not be able to enjoy the physical kingdom that God is preparing for us.
To understand how we lost the ability to be part of the physical kingdom it all happened when we sinned. There was an intruder that interjected and created us to be against the King of our world which was God.
Then God calls a special nation to start the restoration process in guiding people to the King which can restore all our differences.
God called the Israelite to be those chosen nation of restoration and healing people toward God. God took His people out of Egypt and took His people through the dessert to purify them and restore His kingdom.
God led His people with a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day.
God sustained His people with given manna to eat, their clothed never wore out, their shoes never whore out.
God protected His people and fought the battles for them.
God encamped in their midst of them in the arc of the covenant.
God sent prophets for His people to be guided.
We find that when it came to the prophet Samuel God’s people did not want to do the King’s way anymore and they wanted to be like the other nations that where not from God the true King of this earth. God’s people wanted another king to rule over them.
By God’s people wanting a king they where not rejecting Samuel they where rejecting God.
God wants to be our King.
There is a consequence when we reject God of being our king and we accept other kings in our lives.
The other king will steal your children from you. He will take your sons and appoint them for his own chariots and to be his horsemen, and some will run before his chariots.
The other king will take advantage of you. He will appoint captains over his thousands and captains over his fifties, will set some to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and some to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.
The other king will take away your daughters from you. He will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers
The other king will take away your land. And he will take the best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive groves, and give them to his servants.
The other king will take away your produce. He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage, and give it to his officers and servants
The other king will take away your property. And he will take your male servants, your female servants, your finest young men, and your donkeys, and put them to his work. He will take a tenth of your sheep. And you will be his servants.
And you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you in that day.
Does your prayer don’t get answered? Question yourself Who is my King?
The Kingdom of God gives us promises and hope while the king of the darkness takes away all of our hope and promises.
The King promises to always fight our battles.
The King promises to take care of our needs.
The King promises to never leave us nor forsake us.
The King promises to prepare a place for us.
The King promises to return and take us home.
The King promises to give us a new body.
The King gave us redemption.
Who
The true King give and not take away.
Who do you want to have as a king?
I want Jesus to be my King and live His life of His kingdom in me through His Spirit.
