You are Member of Christ’s Body

1 Corinthians 6:15 HCSB
Don’t you know that your bodies are a part of Christ’s body? So should I take a part of Christ’s body and make it part of a prostitute? Absolutely not!
The comprehensive teaching of the Bible about the church is that we are part of Christ’s body.
One part hurts, we all hurt.
One part rejoices, we all rejoice.
One part not doing its part, we all suffer.
But here Paul uses this concept to speak of bringing Christ with us into our sexual immorality.
As member’s of the body of Christ, when we engage in sexual immorality, we make Him a part of what we are doing.
This should be a great restrainer in our lives.

You are Hurting Your Own Body

1 Corinthians 6:18 HCSB
Run from sexual immorality! “Every sin a person can commit is outside the body.” On the contrary, the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body.
Genesis 39:12 HCSB
She grabbed him by his garment and said, “Sleep with me!” But leaving his garment in her hand, he escaped and ran outside.
This is urgent! Run!
But why?
1 Corinthians 6:18 HCSB
Run from sexual immorality! “Every sin a person can commit is outside the body.” On the contrary, the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body.
Sexual activity joins people in more than just the sexual act. We are not simply physical. We are body, mind, and soul. It is certainly possibly to become calloused to this truth. Numb by multiple partners, or by sexual addiction to pornography etc. But we ARE a whole person.
We often try to split up our lives into compartments.
But when you commit sexual immorality, it is against your own body.
Since you are uniting with someone else, you are giving a part of yourself away.
Not to mention the varied and growing STD’s and other complications that come from sex outside marriage

You Are God’s Dwelling Place

1 Corinthians 6:19 HCSB
Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
In the Old Testament, God dwelled in the Tabernacle, and the Temple.
In the New Testament, God’s house is within us. We are His Temple.
Don’t dirty up God’s house by sexual immorality.
Don’t dishonor what God wants to be holy by sexual immorality.

You Don’t Belong to You

1 Corinthians 6:19–20 HCSB
Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.
