Is God’ Word Relevant to Me?

In today’s culture, even in Church, you hear that we need to disconnect from the Old Testament. That it is an antiquated old book that doesn’t hold much relevance in today’s world. However, as it seems to happen quite often, God’s word is in conflict with man’s wishes. God’s word is a testimony to our heritage, that it should be a joy to us. Is that how we view God’s word today, and link to our heritage? Do we even care about our heritage?
God’s word is a testimony to our heritage, that it should be a joy to us. Is that how we view God’s word today, and link to our heritage? Do we even care about our heritage?
There are times that we may wish to forget about our family. We don’t get to pick the situation that we are born into. Maybe it would be easier to wipe away our history and start over. Filling in the gaps the way we want to or that pleases us. Creating a better pedigree for our resumes and social media profile. However if we do this we lessen the importance of God in our lives. He put us in certain situations, and helped us get through them. Each fire or trial we faced made us who we are today.
Maybe the Old Testament has some hard truths in there about our ancestors. Maybe there are some sections that are hard to read and understand, but it is a window into our heritage. And it should bring us joy. That God cares enough for us that He has set us apart. But His word does so much more. It helps us to be the person that He wants us to be. It helps soothes us in time of trouble, and guide us in times of decisions. But we have to place His word in our hearts, so that we may use it.
The other and more important item that the Old and New Testament has is the information on who our God is. Just as our ancestry tree tells us about our history, the Bible tell us who God is, tells us about His characteristics and His plan for His people. If we want to know who we are, then we need to know who created us and why. This tells us who we are and who we can be. Scripture tells us that we sin, but that is not who we are but a choice that we made. We don’t have to be that, but it takes His work and power to overcome that desire.
Scripture says “The unfolding of His words”, what an unassuming word “unfolding”. But it has such a great meaning and purpose for us. The root of this word is “Let Loose”. How great would it be if we let loose God’s word in our life every second of every day. If we take the knowledge that God’s word holds and apply it to our lives, wow what a day. God wants us to know Him. His word gives us directions and explanation on how we are to act. Don’t think that you can do this own your own. Only God can give us the Holy Spirit to give us strength to live out a life that He wants for us, faithful.
