            Dizzy Dean once spent a hot afternoon arguing with a plate umpire’s calls on balls and strikes.  The celebrated pitcher never once persuaded the umpire to change his mind and the other team won the game two to one.

            That evening Dizzy ran into the official at a restaurant.  “We had quite a game today,” he said.  “Too bad you didn’t get to see it!”
