Sacrifice is a part of the relationship with God (Gen 8:20-22)

A relationship with God involves a both a fear of His wrath and faith in His promise of grace.
Behind God’s promise in Gen 9:8-11…
God is fully capable of destroying all creation.
But he promises not to.
That means our salvation is not based on our good works (how good are we really) but on God’s grace.
We should remember our the object of our faith when we look at His symbols of His promise promises.
Gen 9:12-13 – This is the sign of the covenant (bow)
Gen 9:14 -15 : “When I bring clouds … I will remember”
The potential for righteous judgment is there.
But God promise of grace is always there also.
We should see it and me reminded of both.
We have a symbol of a great promise today
The cross represents God righteous judgment
A penalty owed by all mankind taken by one man
The cross also represents God’s sacrificial love
