When I am first winning the ministry.

I should wear at store you couple weeks ago. The pastor was working with he started discipling me that what it means to be a full-time Minister and what? Unique challenges you face when it comes to administering godswood Ministry in the church.

One thing he mentioned to me. He said it's something you don't realize as a Ministry leader was a church member but something changes when you become a pasta something happens. That becomes well loud in your life.

He called them voices.

These voice is all of a sudden appearing you around you voices that you don't know where that come from sometimes but as a pasta you go to get used to hearing these voices voices that say some extraordinary things.

Voices that you don't get very often if you're just in the church. What is a pass that you he almost on a weekly basis and we're not immune to that he by the way.

It's incredible how old of a sudden as a pasta you become the focal point of people's opinions people start people's hurts people's Pines. people's aggressions people's demands It's interesting. You wouldn't believe how many people want your ear and have an opinion and tell you that God told them. And it's really interesting because some of the times you going to sit there and you think but that just contradicted something. Somebody else just said, they might not notice that I've heard it even here in this church where God said this person who just said God said this a moment ago said the exact opposite. I know that because of being told to me. I think it's difficult to even knock-back those opinions all those thoughts of what God told them because then you're challenging if they're really hearing God or not. Is the most difficult thing about voices the hottest thing about voices? Is your own voice?

It's your own voice. Things that rummage around in your head that tell you you're incompetent, you're not good enough. You're fat you got issues who will you to even say these things don't have to be a pastor to hear those voices, by the way. A lot of us hear those voices constantly.

And for some of us it's hard to ignore him.

They live within us.

They have influence on the steps we take in life.

His voice is a deeply personal what would people think of me?

What are they going to say when I'm not around? What do I even look like to them?

But it's not all the negative voices that are problem.

There are the entitlement voices that we have as well. I am good enough. They should listen to me. I know what I'm saying. I have authority.

Some of us even deeper. I want more. They don't pay me enough. They don't acknowledge me enough these voices good and bad both outside and inside have a lot in the way of shaping who we are as Christians who we are as people who we are as human beings.

And it's interesting amongst all the voices that vici. We have a God who pull states in the book of Hebrews, but we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are if he did not send. I always wondered what are the voices that Jesus hood in his life.

What are those voices?

This morning. We're in to check the full of the Book of Matthew and chapter four is most probably one of my favorite. Chapters believe it or not the temptation of Jesus because it makes him sound so real. It's a pot that I can totally sympathize with because I've lived and I continue to live through those Temptations.

Open up your Bibles to chapter 4.

Install QuickBooks was one of the two then Jesus was led by the spirit Into the Wilderness to be tempted by the devil and after plastic for 40 days and 40 nights. He was hungry into the Wilderness. He went to face the whispering voices and to acknowledge them for what they are. He is going into a quiet space with these voices will be loud. It'll be just him.

And he will face. Those voices why now?

Because just a moment ago, we sold last week the Blessed Trinity. Oh coming into one the acknowledgement the affirmation of who Jesus is and what his mission is. And you can imagine after that affirmation all those positive voice assigned. Yeah. Immediately. He goes to face those Whispers.

external and internal

if ice has them now before he has to face the mission he's been called into

Into the Wilderness the Wilderness was a pretty place. It's not that soft Sandy Sahara Desert. He look. You got a piece of cowboy and you can actually to bug him down that's not nothing like that. This will hook about if you did that. Rocky it's dangerous hot arid. It's not comfortable to sit on the lay down on.

And yet what Jesus is doing in chapter full Mega understand the Book of Matthew is a book that was written in the first century by a Jew riding to the Jews. It wasn't thinking at the time when he was riding at that. I'm running the 21st century tenuous.

He was riding to Griffith choose as a chew. And immediately when a Jew is reading chapter 4 of Matthew. He's mine goes immediately back to a book that he would have memorized as a child. The book of Deuteronomy chapter 8 verse 2, which says this it says remember how the Lord your God LED you all the way in the wilderness these forty years to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart whether or not you would keep his commands now, it's really interesting because when it comes to the Book of Matthew chapter 4 we quickly pick up at seitan that does with his temp think that it's that saying that those oldest leading know Jesus is led by the Holy Spirit. And hearing Deuteronomy who's doing the testing?

It's called. We give Satan way too much is due.

At times it's called nutis. In August, I'll be doing a series on the Book of Job and what we're about to read and even Satan's rolling. This is so familiar. the job

again

These people memorize these things they would have read it and thought.

Oh, yeah.

And the testing is not for God to know your heart. He knows your heart. The testing is for you to know your heart. The testing is that you can see what's really going on.

Today's some cold at self-awareness.

Cuz you know, sometimes it's really scary. Looking Sade. sometimes it's not really something it will look out, but we can

God tests us know so that he might know what's in your heart, but that you may not what's in your heart.

And that if you'd have growing him you can address what state.

So father sends the Sun out into that will dance to Humble intestine. See what's in his heart?

And then I with her. You'll keep his Commandments.

The 140 why would you go out before when you get out for a week? A week would have been enough, right? Main three days without food for me would be. Huh?

40 dice. It's a long time wife. So this is a pop for those of you who are a bit more. With a Bryan's and you'd like to be challenged about some information 40 was so important to the Jews again for us. We don't really think much about numbers apart from outrage. the numbers to have a significance Vici 911 I kind of raises some eyebrows. Is there a Dayton February that you all kind of remember?

A birthday their dates that tend to stick with us or numbers that you stick with us for the Jews very much. So they look at this. They read this I think not only the Wilderness I think 4040. Well, what's 40 / about will hang on wasn't the flood 40 days. Yeah, right. That's right 40 days and then Moses. He stayed 40 years in the desert, you know after he ran away from Egypt, he was 40 years in the desert before he got called by God. It is another 40 or what about Moses. I'm starting on 40 days and 40 nights on the map receiving the word of God the Lord the Lord to hand out to his people or what about Elijah I want you to say 40 days. He fled from Mount Carmel after the prophets and violin all of that. He ran out into the Wilderness 40 days. It was out there. We also got none of the Goliath. Go I spent 40 days taunting the church are the Israelites before David stepped up with his fling. We've also got Nineveh Jonah spent 40 days preaching a very unhelpful gospel 31 sentence long and he did it before he dies and get that changed the whole city, you know this 40 days between Christ's resurrection and his Ascension

is 40 days between that is also 40 days of its actually 40 Lashes the Old Testament law started. You could not give a person more than 40 Lashes for whatever crime he committed that with the maximum amount of lashes Jesus himself for 6:39.

The spies Moses sent out into Canaan. They spent 40 days spying on Cana soil David and Solomon the three First Kings of Israel the three only Kings of a United United Israel. They each had a rain of 40 years. Do you get this thing of 40 coming up a little bit now?

Israelites in the wilderness 42 years. I spent out there, you know, there are 40 authors in the Bible. 35 of which we know five we don't. This old man something to the people. He first read this symbolism was so important to them when they reading this and I'll just thinking of this guard Jesus who apparently is the Messiah going out into the desert. They say 40 in Ithaca. Oh my goodness. That's significant.

That means something.

That's intense how he can make some of those thoughts.

So it goes out and the temp the site and comes to him and said if you are the son of God.

One of those voices right one of those Whispers if you are the son of God. if you are the son of God at least honest to turn into bread.

Is it a sin to turn Stone into bread?

Texas like silence

It's always been right. So, how's this a temptation? Iornament preaching a sermon a few years ago on this and I don't understand. Is it a sin to Tim Starnes the baby Jesus later on like multiplies bread, right. He feeds 4000 people. It wasn't a sin back then was that ass in this is not why is this and what why is this wrong?

Cuz he was hungry. He's depending on this one word power.

He has the power to do it. And where the Temptation is is Jesus if you are the Son of God use your power.

How many of you have been in a situation where you've waited on God you don't think you've heard from him. Then you just made a decision to just do it.

I am going to put my hand up and say I have I've used my power.

We have abilities that God he's even gifted us.

And there's a bilities we tend to them actually depend on them rather depending on God.

In Matthew chapter 17 is Jesus is talking to his disciples. He said anything he goes through this office will be many of you who come to me on that died when you die and you see me on the day of judgment and you excited your prophesy. No neck did we not do all these things in unit did we not convert people and and do these Miracles and all that and he says get away from me. I don't know you. You had the power. And you relished in that power.

And this is what Satan is trying to do. Try tripping up. Is hungry he has the power to do this, but he wants to be a BD until the father. Is driven to be obedient to the father? Remember that verse in Deuteronomy chapter 8 verse 2 where it said remember how the Lord your God LED you all the way in the wilderness these forty years to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart whether or not you would keep his commands. Shoprite grocery says this a humbled you causing you to hunger and then faded you with Mana which they do, you know, your ancestors are not to teach you that man does not live on bread alone. But on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord that how did Jesus respond to Satan?

with that very verse

Jesus answered it is written man. Shall not live on bread alone. But on every word that comes from the mouth of God. I am not dependent on my own power. I am not seeking my own power. I am dependent on God.

I am wholly and fully dependent on God.

pretty cool

second temptation Satan takes him. Up to the top of the temple the Temple Mount which is the Temple of huge was hot out there a brings them out the top. And then he starts a sentence again with that voice. If you are the Son of God if you are the son of God.

Throw yourself down 40 is written. He will command his angels concerning you and that will lift you up in their hands. So you will not strike your foot against a stone.

This is testing God.

This is a question of trust.

Satan is challenging UniFirst. Jesus says Hi. I actually trust God.

You come and save you anyway. You know, it's that whole you know, I'll stand behind you. Now, if you lean back, I'll catch you right I did that to me. Once the guy behind me was five foot two.

I didn't trust him. Didn't trust that might hurt him way back show. You know, there is a question of trustee. Just do it try we want to prove Trust.

It's what we do. Some of us we don't trust the apartment is not ready reason for us not to trust that partners that we don't trust them. So we do things or say things. I'll put things in place to help prove their trust. We've got this great sang in Western culture. Trust must be earned.

Josh secularism at its best I'm in my first singing posture. I didn't vote. Unanimous your code to be a part of Europe. I remember one person when I first arrived at this church said to me I'll Rob just because you the pasta you going to have to earn trust. I guess the Holy Spirit sign on the supposed to be the guy. He doesn't count.

What do you mean I have to entrust. You read my bar. You've even packed my life. What what more do you want from me?

You married a person? When would you want your chosen? God is your god what more do you need? And in fact, that's exactly what Jesus says if you truly trust him. You don't need to test him. if I trust God

By putting out a test just to make sure God. I'm going to step up this. I'm going to step off this now. You're going to have to save me.

Trust me.

Peter had to step out of water

so struggled with It's a question of trust and sight and smart enough to know. Okay sure. You can hold your power. But can you hold you trust?

It comes to the third temptation.

Satan takes Jesus to the highest mountain. all the kingdoms of the world and he says this all this I give you if you Bow Down and Worship me. We Christians have this up so badly. Because I promised focus in this is Satan.

But these Temptations actually got nothing to do with Satan all to do with Jesus these kingdoms belong to Satan.

McDonald's That's heresy.

Absolute heresy these kingdoms belong to God and everything in this world belongs to him. Yeah, he is.

A Jesus mission is singular. to bring Salvation tool

the question of control and the thing that we miss with this third temptation is this Satan is giving Jesus an opportunity to sidestep the cross. Why do you need to go through that whole process are you serious? I'll just give it to you to always take it.

This is the cruelest temptation of all. Princess knows what he's going to have to fight. At least we could get in John chapter 17 when he's prying a prize if you can take this wrong me Father take it but if you want me to go through what your will be done.

He knows what he has to face and it's scary. Anyone who suffer from anxiety?

Some of us don't feel like we want to put our hands up. That's fine.

I've been struggling the last three to three months that is not in my stomach. I thought it was the lead up to Christmas. Christmas can be quite busy and it was this year as last year was particularly busy for some reason. And so I thought I'll Christmas day. I'll be able to just rest but I couldn't this not was still there and remember a couple years ago. I married a young couple young couple from will he was from the play about this is now in Italy and he was telling me about what he struggles with with anxiety and how debilitating it can be and I don't didn't understand what anxiety is out and I was caring and I care for him but not having ever had it. I didn't know what how it could be debilitating but he would say it would just freeze you up. It's just I don't beginning to feel the same. I'm starting to think it's anxiety trigger point what it is why I have it why it's there but it's been sitting there like a little lump like a bill that you haven't paid that you got the pipe. or dental appointment you got to go to You feel that now, It's just sitting there and I can imagine Jesus was probably sitting with this anxiety being nailed to a cross.

Knowing that that's going to happen and if there is a wire out of it.

Is that tempting?

is a tempting

Let me just say this really clearly. There are no shortcuts. in anything I went to concert was kind of a constable on the go Nick Cave. He's written. The first time I saw him in concert with 1999. That's how long ago was being around even before then is when the number of albums a number thing and one kid in the this concert was different with a piano on the stage with a microphallus and it was just him and then he has to go people to have two questions that I she's around with microphones. And this one kid who and who got a microphone. I asked you a question, you said? Hi Nick. I'm 18 years old is the youngest guy in this room.

How do you say such a Young musician? What advice can you give? And he said as a Young musician that whole thing called inspiration. Throw it out the window.

Any cost in the shock you like what? Expression thrown out the window. It's all about hard work.

If you want to be a one-hit wonder sure but if you want to do this for a living if you want to rock music, if you want to be this kind of person, it's hard work there are tons and what you've got nothing and you got deadlines it's times in which you don't think you're doing good enough, but you got to keep your head down and your not Christian walk sometimes a bit like that. There are no shortcuts. Jesus knows this sentence throwing out the shortcut is if you want all this is what you doing for. These are the kingdoms you want to save. Let me tell you where should me.

boom Toyotas It does another show cut back in the Book of Job. Sjobs wife that speaks with Satan when she says Curse God and die. Just stop right now why persist?

simple tactic what's kind of shoe? Don't need to do that.

It's interesting. Cousin Matthew for the down in chapter 16 is this verse that happened this passage where it says the time Jesus from that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the oldest the chief priests in the teachers of the law and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life and paid up being paid up being human says took him aside begin to rebuking evil Morty said this shall never happened to you and Jesus turns around appearances get behind me Satan you are a stumbling block to me. You do not have them to mind the concerns of God merely human concerns. Jesus is already faced this temptation. He's already faced this before in the desert in the wilderness. Insane doesn't seem to want to give up on it.

And there's Peter and his humanness so you don't need to do that.

Jason Stein get behind me. Don't tempt me this what? No, I've already told you no.

issue of control

Jesus said to him away from me Satan for it is written Worship the Lord your God and then he addresses the process. He says and conserve him only. I have a mission. I've been colder this Mission. There are no shortcuts to this Mission. I soaked him and him alone. Even if I don't understand it, even if it's it's difficult to grasp even if it means dealing with voices die in diet or anxiety or whatever it might be. I'm cool to serve him alone.

We stopped at the worship our soul about worshiping Satan.

Cool. Sidestepping what God is coldest to do. And we really good at that. We're really good at making our own why I've not sitting tiling saying it's difficult. Don't know if this is what God wants me to do. There's no shortcuts to this.

Gotta get it, right because God has called me to.

It's all about control.

in r

Controls a fight they were up to us. We would all make Outlaws you.

If it was up to us.

We don't want to have a difficult life. We don't want to make it difficult for ourselves or for those we love or even the ones we got really love.

Cancel control. It's after cutting how it's done.

And the devil left him and the angels came and attended him. Now we have three temptations. There is implications in these verses that there was more than just read over a number of them. But these are the three that we've been given. An interesting Lee enough Jesus resist the devil and just like in James chapter 4 verse 7 when we submit ourselves to God if we resist the devil and he will flee from you. That Guinness tends to be blown out of proportion as well.

We tend again attribute a lot to seitan.

This is in regards to temptation. But you know if you're struggling with depression if you're struggling with addiction.

These are not Temptations.

These are things that you require healing from. You don't resist them as eyesight move play in depression will take the pressure with him. Oil type addictions away from you. It does do that.

butter on Brokenness the Brokenness of others

have more impact on us in that way. I've heard too many people come to me who are hurting. Who was struggling? And I straight away give it to say all he is tempting me. I want to send to be tempted.

Jesus was tempted. This is no temptation. This is something wrong. We need to give it to God to make it rot. And that's hard work.

That is hard work.

The fact it's a bit about control, isn't it?

the bit about power to isn't it be easier if we can snap our fingers and colon the Holy Spirit to Take It All Away

pool dream that and yet that's the one in his side's died.

Submit yourselves then to God resist the devil and he will flee from you. He will tempt you he will choose to tempt you.

Stand your ground.

Could Jesus have sinned and he?

Remember that voice if you are the Son of God remember that voice that you heard in the wilderness is another time Jesus keys that voice.

Is another time when that voice? Comes to haunt him. Matthew 27 twisted

What happened to Bud?

Those who pass by hilde insults at him shaking their heads and saying you who were going to destroy the temple and build it in three days. Save yourself come down from the cross if you are the son of God.

What is point of weakness? Satan is right there. With that same voice the same Whispers. If you are the son of God.

Call about power trust and control.

If you are the Son of God, Jesus gave up his power he gave us to the father and get control of him even in the point in which he could have stepped right down from that cross.

It was a book written by a great guy many many years ago. He hasn't got it made into a movie called The Last Temptation Of Christ this in my mind is he's lost Temptation hearing those voices again. If you are the Son of God knowing that he had the power that he had the control. Freddy Krueger step right off that cross and the Very people. He's trying to save a right there being used by the one. Who was opposing him?

If you are the son of God.

When Jesus came and he fights Temptation we came to this earth. You didn't come as his blue-eyed blond long haired guy. Looking great. Looking peaceful and beautiful and all that. He came in a broken World himself from parents or insignificant.

Carrying white of old lady was carrying was probably had anxiety being tempted.

It's interesting that when we come to communion, sometimes we look at these elements. They look so beautiful and and lovely and then Arsenal cups in a perfectly squid little pieces of bread and we forget that on that cross. It was nothing beautiful about it. There was nothing lovely about it. It was awful. It was broken. It was blooded.

And when it comes to what the sacrifices our Lord made when his body was broken. all the cross and we're reminded. I'm not only that of The Temptations he's Feist. of the what you carried? And we're reminded. In the book of Hebrews that he faced everything we Feist. What communion is not? a pretty thing it's not something that we look at and can walk away from without acknowledging that he's blood was spilled for us. And that he spiced everything we Feist. And I didn't run Brokenness. We have a God who understands not because he's read a book. not because he's followed some. Dick tight fit because he lived it himself.

And his blood was pulled out for you. afirme in the most gruesome way

The Temptation is not something we can discard and just read us a story.

Is proof of Jesus Savior house savior?

We gave up everything to save you and me.

Going to come into a time of communion now.

And this is a time for you to go to the points is a table. He is a table there is a table at the back. As a worship team is up here.

Take your time.

Lift your hearts to the one. Who knows what's really going on in there.

Take your time. In a commune with him.
