Farewell Discoures
Notice the questions the disciples ask - 5; 8; 22;
3 things happened from
Jesus speaks - Thomas Response (dont know the way)
Jesus speaks - Philip Response ( show us the Father)
Jesus makes statement about greater works
The Diciples are confused and concerned. They dont understand Jesus and they dont know what is happening. Jesus is preparing them for his departure.
How does someone do not allow their heart to be troubled? - Jesus is saying that the same way you trust in God, Trust also in Me. - Thats the how
Here’s the why- Reasons - Verse 2
You dont need to be troubled because I am going to prepare a place for you. I have an expectation that you will arrive at this place. This place is where Jesus is.
v4-6Jesus is the way to God, precisely because he is the truth of God . Jesus is the supreme emboidedment of God.
v7-11 Jesus is speaking about Revealtion. Jesus fully revelas the Father to us. Without Jesus we would not know the Father.
v11 From verese 11 Jesus begins to speak about works. He tells us to beleive in his works and that after he goes to the Fther that greater works we will do. Sometime we think about works and greater works as the greater person will do the greater work. For example, Michael Jordan is better than Scotie Pippen so Michael Jordan did greater basketball works. Makes sense. But this is not the case here becuse we know that Jesus is greater than any other human being that ever lived.
Bishop Frazier comments on this passage of Scripture. Greater works will be in the qaunity not the qualilty of Jesus.
But the emphasies is that he is going to the Father whcih enables us to do greater works.
v15 -21 Jesus begin to speak about the ministy of the Holy SPirit.
Then Jesus concludes the Chapter by speaking about the Holy Spirit and the world.
