He we have the account of the testing of Abraham. he was about to say goodbye to his second son. the was the son of promise to sarah the son he was told he would have from here.
In the chapter before we find that abraham said goodbye to both Hagar and Ismael as he sent them off with a bottle of water and some bread.
you could say that Abraham was about to say goodbye to his his final chance of realising the promise that God had given him.
I can not emagin for a moment how he must de feeling.
a few days earlier he had two sons and he could see the promise that God had given him before his eyes
what was that promise
once again i hear you say this was after the event
but what about before
this was when God was asking Abraham to leave his fathers house and the ur of the caldeanes
As abraham was sending Hagar away with Ishmeal and as he with isaac traveling away from his home to the place that God would show him just what would be going through his mind.
God gave me Ismael and he has been sent away from me (and we dont ever read of them seeing each other again)
And now i am traveling to the place that God would reveal and im going to sacrifice my other son
Dose God know what he is doing,?
has he forgotton his promise to me?
if i Kill Isaac will he raise him up again?
many of the questions that would have gone through his mind would have have tested his Faith
Faith in the God that had called him, had lead, him supplied for him, prospered him and had blessed him with children
And now we see that after travelling for 3 days abraham saw afar off the place that God had told him about.
Three is a number of compleatness but to a lesser degree than 7 but it also denote seperation
Here we see that abraham and Isaac and the two men had be seperated from sarah 3 day and now aBraham and Isaac were to be seperated from the two young men.
The road of sacrifice can be a lonely road but the father is always near.
Abraham and isaac were to continue to the place of sacrifice alone
Isaac says nothing
But his parting words to the young men was
Here we can see the faith of Abraham. he and the lad would go and worship and come again.
Here i believe we can see the huge faith that Abraham has, I don’t feel that this was some idle word that came out of his mouth but he was prophesying into the situation.
I believe that Abraham trusted God enough that if he had offered Isaac upon the alter of sacrifice that God had the power to rise him up again.

Following a word from God. explain
its at this point that Isaac opens his mouth
isaac question was a fair and valid question to ask, he knew that to offer a burnt offering there had to be a lamb
The lamb that would be quite would led and was willing.
I dont suposse for a minute that had isaac new that he was to be the sacrifice he would have had something to say about it.
But what about abrahams answer to the first of the two questions of Isaac.
Isaac said my father and abraham and said
Here am I my son
If we would have answered him we might have said
Here i am my son
lets put them side by sidw
Here am I my son
Here I am my son
in the first
Abraham was letting his son Isaac know that he was he.
in the second
Here God the father is letting the son Jesus that he is here.
He we see an analogy between abraham and isaac and God and Jesus.
Abraham responce to Isaacs question is just as prophetic as his statement to the 2 young men
Here we have a statement that was as relevent then as is now
it was as prophectic then as now.
