Don’t worry, He’s faithful.

I arrived here in Florida on at about 1:00 in the morning on Saturday with a sermon already prepared to share with you.
But in the time since then current situations in my life caused me to reconsider and share this word with you this morning.
So if it’s alright with yall I’m going to be preaching to my self as I preach to you. Because the word that I have this morning is a much of a word for me as it is to anybody else.
[Pray]
As most of you know I’m currently studying in seminary. This has been quite a rewarding journey but it has been quite challenging.
One of the biggest challenges that I’ve had is paying the bills. It’s not been easy to find a job that pay well, and works with my schedule of being a full-time student. was blessed to find the job I currently have as a assisitant manager at the clothing store Banana Republic.
Just over a week ago I found myself sitting in my bosses office. I had just found out the news about my uncle and has devasted by that news to have sit-down meeting with the general manager at my job.
She had texted me just a few days earlier and told me that she needed to talk to me about my role and changes being made at my job that would effect me so I knew to be expecting something.
In our meeting I learned that Banana Republic the clothing store where I am currently a manager will be cutting the part-time managerial role that I serve in.
This felt all too familiar because almost one year before to the date I was laid off from my last job.
Here I was again losing the position that I worked in for factors that had nothing to do with my job perfomance, behavoir or anything to do with me at all.
Last year was a hard year for me. After losing my job I spent alot of time worrying about how we were going to pay the bills. I stayed up late many nights trying to figure what I could do fix the situation.
There’s somebody in here today that is struggling with worry. It may be with about finances and paying the bills just like it was in the past for me.
It may be a sickness that you’re dealing with.
SOmebody in here may be worried about their child that isn’t on the best path right now.
I’m come here this morning to tell you that God cares for you and will provide what it is that you need.
The title of my sermon this morning is:
Don’t worry, He’s faithful.
Today I’m going to challenge you to Put your faith in the character and power of God, instead of worrying.
Let’s look at the text for this mornings sermon
And i’ll be reading from the New Living Translation.
There are 3 things that I want you to walk away from this sermon knowing.
You ain’t God.
God Cares for you
He will provide.
Let’s look at this passage
Luke 12:22–31 NLT
Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? “Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.
The first thing that I want you to get from this passage is that and excuse my english You ain’t God.
Normally this is when some pastors tell you to turn to your neighbor and say “You ain’t God”
But I want you to get this point first before we move to any others. If we truly believe that God is God. That means that “You ain’t God”
For me it took me into my 3rd year of seminary to get a firm grasp of this truth. I am not God. Now you may thing that is arrogant or prideful for me to think that I’m God but many of you operate in this way.
To be more clear on this we could say Yahweh is God. You see God is not a name but instead a title. If we say that Yahweh, the God of the bible is God we are saying is that it He that is in control, We are saying that it is HE that is the master, he’s the boss, he’s the one in control.
But how many of us can say that we really live like this?
That what God’s word says is enough?
Not just the ten commandments or the old baptist rules.
But when Jesus said give Cesar was is his . We not tryna claim our cats and dogs on our taxes.
Or when Jesus says that it’s not what goes into you that defiles you but the things that come out of our mouths that defile. Aren’t cussing nobody out.
How many can truly say that it is God that is in control of the path of your life?
(Insert other sins)
But when I say you ain’t God let’s look at the text and see why. Look at Verse 25
Luke 12:25 NLT
Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
Luke 12:25–26 NLT
Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?
Jesus asks the disciples a rhetorical question here. “Can you add a single moment to your”
I’ve read this passage hundreds if not thousands of times. I used to have this written on a piece of paper hanging on my wall.
This was back before I was married and needed authorized approval to hang something on my own wall.
But what jumped out to me this time looking at this verse is that we can’t add a single moment to our lives because we ain’t God. God can add a thousands hours to our lives if He so chooses because he is God.
But we can not. Because “You ain’t God, I ain’t God, We ain’t God.
He is God alone and because of that He gets to decide our fate.
You see last year though I was studying to be a pastor one day, love God, got baptized right here in this church at the age of 5. I would confess that I there is one God and I was not HIm. That is not how I was operating.
Most of the time we worry because we think that if we put enough thought and energy into our problems we can change them alone. WE PLAY GOD
So for me I filled out dozens and dozens of job applications. I was driving for Uber and Lyft and would stay out driving late nights, and wake up early mornings.
But I would find that things just continued to get worse, I found myself getting really sick to the point that I couldn’t even get out of the bed. My car broke down with a passenger in the car, which was really embarrassing.
And couldn’t get interviews or ended up getting jobs that were terrible and really really low paying.
This went on from early March until the end of August. Until I was sitting in church one day, listening to the choir sing and God said something to me that I hope I never forget.
Inside God said “ You need me more than you realize now, or could ever understand”
You see I was worried because I was operating as if I was God. That His word on the matter which is says here to worry about such things. I was living as if I wasn’t His child and He wouldn’t provide.
You see my little niece Zendaya doesn’t worry about what she’s going to be eating tomorrow. Because she has a Dad that is in control and she has faith is going to feed her when she gets hungry.
He need to live in way we don’t worry about any of the troubles that we are faced with in our lives. Not because they are not real because I know that they are. But we have a Dad that is control and is going to take care of us.
So my first point to remember is that “ You ain’t God”
My second reason Why you should stop worrying and trust God is because he cares for you.
luke 12:27-
Luke 12:27–28 NLT
“Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
To get an idea of how fly Solomon we need to understand who Solomon was. Not only was Solomon the son of King David. The King that built the first Temple for God. But in is says that Kind Solomon was the richest of the kings on the earth.
I saw this stat online that did an estimate of what Solomon’s net worth would be translated into today’s term is says he would be worth approximately 2.1 TRILLION dollars.
This Black man worth about 2.1 trillion dollars we know he was for the younger people on fleek, for the people my age he was stunting, for the older generation he was styling and profiling.
But the text says that even he was dressed as beautifully as the lillies of the field that did nothing to work for there beauty. If God cares about them, how much more does he care about you.
Look at verse 24
Luke 12:24 NLT
Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!
If God takes the time to take care of Ravens. which are some ugly birds how much more will take time to care of you who he loves.
My wife and I were in Colorado recently and we went up into the Rocky Mountations. I had seen mountations before but these are just breath taking. Looking at them are just amazing.
He went for a short hike, next to this frozen lake and we were both caught up in the beauty of everything around us and my wife says “Oh look at that bird” and me expecting to see some majestic eagle turns to see and ugly old Raven that had seen better days.
Even though ugly loud birds God knows and takes care of.
But my wife did say something profound as we rode up into the mountations.
She said it’s amazing to look at something as grand and majestic as these mountations and to yet think that God calls us his masterpiece.
Just earlier in this chapter Jesus says that God has numbered the hairs on our head.
For me that number has gone down for what it when I was sitting down there. But God is so concerned with you, He cares for you so much that he has numbered each hair on your head.
I have a professor at my seminary that not only has a Doctorate in Theology but also in Neurology. He said she he got that to minister to people in the scientific research world that worship science instead of God.
He told us in class once that he has brought scientist to faith in God simply by discussion of the human eye.
He said that when studied on a detailed level that your eye is such a complex design that allows us to see colors and depth, and motion and so many other things that people has come to believe in God over discussion of that alone.
You are God’s materpiece, You are what Christ went on the cross and died for, You are loved by God. And he cares for you.
So by this point you may under that “You ain’t God” that God Cares for you.
But now so that you can stop worrying and start trusting God for whatever it is that is going on in your life You have to believe that HE WILL PROVIDE
Luke 12:29–31 NLT
“And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.
Look at what the text says here Don’t be concerned, Don’t worry. For these are things that those that don’t know who God is are concerned about but we have a Father that knows our needs and will give you everything that you need.
You might be thinking that I’m not worried about what food, or drink, or clothing. But it says not even the bigger things
Maybe what you are worried about does not fit into any of those categories. God WILL Provide what it is you need. Now let’s be clear its not always in the timing that you will want it to be. Maybe want you need is not the same thing that you That you envisioned it being but God will give you all that you need. Maybe it’s peace and assurance that you need during a troubling time. Or maybe you need a friend, just someone to be there for you right now. Maybe what you need is direction of which steps to take next. God will provide that too. Because He is God, He is able to provide whatever it can be big or small.
Because He cares for you he won’t let you go without the things that you need,
And because He is our loving Father He will give you just what you ask for.
Look at just one Chapter back
Luke 11:11–13 NLT
“You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
If we as sinful, messed up people know how to be good to our children, or to the ones that we love How much more is our heavenly Father going to give us what we need when we ask it of him.
So there’s 3 things I want you to remember.
You ain’t God. He is.
God Cares for you
And He will provide for you.
There 3 quick things I want you to do in light of these truths.
Examine where in your life ayou are playing God. Is it with your finances, with your children, what you do at your job.
Find the places that you aren’t living by what His word has said and instead are living your on will.
Give up control over your life and had it to him.
Pray to God and ask Him for what you need.
And not just in some robotic way going through the motion. But truly pray where you know that you are counting on God to show up and provide, open doors, heal you, walk with you, comfort you.
Find an anchor verse on passage.
Find a passage that you can hold on and recite when you have the temptation to worry. This passage in can be one other might be
Philippians 4:6–7 NLT
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
1 Peter 5:6–7 NLT
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
Zechariah 4:6 NLT
Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
Find a verse that works for you and the season that you’re in to meditate on instead of the desire to worry.
Or my anchore verse for this season
Last year after God Spoke to me and Told me that I needed Him more than I could even imagine. I started resting in the fact that He was God, that he said he would take care of my needs that He had the ability to do so.
I realized that it was my own pride that wanted to be in control of everything instead of trusting God for what he could do.
I remember that He cares for me and that He will provide just as He always will.
It was then that I got not one but two jobs, it was then that God blessed my wife with a higher paying job. But before any of that happened, before any of that changes I experienced the peace that surpasses all understanding.
There’s a great blessing simply in the act alone when you stop worrying and start trusting God.
Romans 8:35–39 NLT
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
