Understanding our Salvation

Hello welcome to the third night of our revival week, we are so glad you could make it.
If you are a guest with us we would consider you an honored guest. Hopefully you received a guest connection card, if you did not , please raise your hand and an usher will bring you one or grab one at the welcome center after service. Then please just take and second to fill it out and drop that off at the welcome center and we will have a special gift for you.
We will be looking at in a effort to hopefully gain an understanding or deepen our knowledge of what God did for us through the work on the cross. Not just that he saved us from Hell, as if that wasn’t enough.
He did so much more....
but before we go any further let us stop and ask the Lord to bless this service
Pray
If you are physically able please stand for the reading of Gods word
so we learned yesterday that we are all sinners we were born with sin and we owe a debt for that sin. And a some point we become aware of our sin or at least the sinful things we do. {in the case of kids} And there is nothing we can do on our behalf to repay the debt and at some point we become aware of our sin or at least the sinful things we do.
Romans 3:19–26 MEV
19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced, and all the world may become accountable to God. 20 Therefore by the works of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin. 21 But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets. 22 This righteousness of God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all and upon all who believe, for there is no distinction. 23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith, in His blood, for a demonstration of His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins previously committed, 26 to prove His righteousness at this present time so that He might be just and be the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.
We learned yesterday that we all all sinners we were born with sin and we owe a debit for that sin, and a some point we become aware of our sin or at least the sinful tings we do in the case of kids and there is nothing we can do on our behalf to repay the debit and a some point we become aware of our sin or at least the sinful tings we do.

Romans 3:23 MEV
23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,
We also learned there is nothing we can do on our behalf to repay the debt . But GOD in his perfect eternal and righteous love, has made a way for us through the VIRGIN birth, PERFECT life, WRONGFUL prosecution, CRUCIFIXION, DEATH, Burial, Resurrection on the 3 rd day, and Ascension into Heaven.

John 3:16–17 MEV
16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Understanding our Salvation

Most of us here have at some point taken on student loan. And know that its one of those in life we are just stuck with. I have a friend who got his associates, then BA., Masters, than another etc. He has been in school for the better part of 30 years. And why would he do this, well yes he does love to learn, but partly because he cant afford or perhaps doesn't want to pay the loans back. or we can call the Dept of Edu and ask for a Forbearance of our loan or to put off the payment for a certain period of time.

Forbearance - ἀνοχή

a holding back
a state of respite from something onerous or disagreeable( relief), a temporary cessation (pause), the act of clemency ( tolerance).
a temporary cessation, pause
o the act of clemency, tolerance
To understand what God has done and what he is saying in our verse we need to look at the past , specifically the old testament. we need to understand the way God dealt with the persons of the old testament. Every year the High Priest would on the day of atonement offer up a Sin offering which would cover or forbear the wrath from God, every year this would happen over and over. They were and we are incapable of keeping the law, they were never going to be able to pay the debt they owed, and God continued to grant the more time to try. but it was not possible to repay. Try as we might we cant this was the purpose for the law to show us a need for savior. this sacrifiice would move Gods wrath from 100% to 0% and then it would start ticking back to 100% . and no matter what we do the meter always resets.

t Propitiation
but God had a plan he gave us a way though the work of Christ.

Propitiation

Propitiation - ἱλαστήριον

That which serves as an instrument for regaining the goodwill of a deity
he the perfect sacrifice for our sins, for all sin. He was the sin offering. I really want to stress and contrast what he did here not only did Christ take and turn Gods wrath from 100% - 0% but past that to a point where our relationship with God was restored. He has given us an opportunity to be his child, to be admitted to Heaven,
looking back at my friend who has all that school debt he is unable to pay , so he calls up the dept of ed and ask for a forbearance and just like that he is “free from the debt” well for a year now along comes Bill Gates and says hey Bob I will take care of that school bill for you and if you decide to keep going I will cover that to and while I am at it i will pay every single persons bill and add a few extra Billion to the kitty. This is like the work of Christ on the cross but he has paid so much more and his account will never run dry, Amen?
Arndt, William et al. A Greek-English lexicon of the New Testament and other early Christian literature 2000 : 474. Print.
so God has paid, is paying and will pay for all our sin he has made you right with the Father but what does that mean?

Righteousness - δικαιοσύνη

The quality, state, or practice of judicial responsibility w. focus on fairness, justice.

So I cant do Justice to this lesson tonight so I am just going to warm it up for Pastor tomorrow, but we have to look at it to fully understand our salvation because Christ paid our debt, he has be come our advocate he will on our behalf plead our case to the father and because he paid the perfect price we are and will be blameless before God,
1 John 2:1 MEV
1 My little children, I am writing these things to you, so that you do not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous One.

Understanding our Salvation

so what do we do with this, if you are born again you believe in the death burial and resurrection than KNOW REALLY KNOW that you are perfect now in Gods eyes you dont need to do anything, to earn gods favor, He sees you though his son his perfection not our flaws, do but out of joy and love for the Father and the son, and rest that you are enough as he has remade you.
now maybe you you are sitting here and have never asked Christ to be your saviour to save you form your sin that you cannot , to fill you with the Holy Spirit and make you a new creature well today is that day.
