The biblical patriarch of “Justification by faith” and who’s life preceded the “10 commandments” is Abraham. His life and journey is recorded in the book of Genesis

19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22 This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”

Prior to “The Law”, judgment followed one man’s sin (i.e. Adam) and brought condemnation and death
The Greek word for “trespass” is “paraptōma”, means breaking trust with God
After “The Law” was given it created more awareness of sin and so trespass increased
However, in Christ grace increased all the more and brought justification for many

By no means! Placing our faith and allegiance in Jesus means our old nature was buried with Christ through baptism into death
Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, in the same way, we live a new life

Paul uses an analogy of the binding law of “union in marriage” and compares it with the binding grace of “union with Him”
By law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive
If her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man
In the same manner, we were bound to “The Law” and repeatedly reminded that we were controlled by the sinful nature bearing fruit to death
But we have now died to “The Law” through the body of Christ and are Released from “The Law” to serve in the new way of the Spirit in order that we bear fruit to God
We now belong to Him who was raised from the dead
