The Overlapping Ministries

The argument over cleansing/ Baptism
Jesus’ disciples were baptizing on the other side
larger crowds were going to Jesus
John’s disciples were getting jealous
They wanted John to do something
a new program or something

The Maturity of John

V 27
Knows God / God is Sovreign
1 Corinthians 4:6–7 AV
And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another. For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
that does not mean we can be lazy and blame it on God for no results, John was doing the same thing as before
nor should we be angry if God is giving another ministry more success
we should be humble in knowing that it is God
if God is in control why is there bad things happening?
we don’t know the future why this is happening
sin nature there is no one good / sickness and pain is a result of sin
pain and sickness started when man decided gods way was not best
I’m going to do things my way, God I don’t need you
all things work together for good
we have a life ahead of us that has no pain
A hope in Christ
V 28 I am not the Christ
He knows his position/ place
I’ve told you that before, Why aren’t you following Him?

The Joy of Being in Christ

V 29 The example of the wedding
the best man was Johns place / And so are we
for this example only / otherwise we are the bride of Christ
Joy comes when we say “Jesus use Me”
“use me to bring others to you”
John’s joy came with the completion of the mission
Well done my good and faithful servant
we are co labors with Jesus
Matthew 11:29–30 AV
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Jesus must be magnified in our lives/ not self
Do we live our lives looking at Jesus and wondering what he thinks /
or do we look at others and wonder what they think
Jesus is the head of the body not the pastor

He must increase I must decrease

V 30
Who is #1 in your life, you?
we will never have joy
we will always be searching for the next best thing to give us satisfaction
