Introduction
Slavery is something that The United States was good at.
The Conversation in all its different forms of Anger, Denial, Get over it, Healing, Apology, Etc is still continuing today, as we struggle with things like racism.
and Slavery today.
There are estimated over 400,000 slaves in the United states today.
which is nothing compared to the 25 million estimated world wide (on the low side).
Slavery put a boundary between the races that lasted long after slavery was abolished.
That is why MLK Jr. had such a dream of equality.
Imagine being captured by a slave trader or even a neighboring tribe that happens to be at war with your tribe, perhaps they just do not like you.
They take you in chains if you are lucky, by hooks that they have placed in your nose, or tongue, or eyebrow, or other, if you are not.
You are then taken to a warehouse where you are presented and sold, like cattle.
The men who buy you put you on a ship bound across the Atlantic Ocean
The Crossing could last anywhere from 40 days to 6 months, on a small narrow boat where the slaves were placed as tight as they can be, sandwiched so that no more men could fit, even taking out food supplies so that more could be put on.
They did this to offset the high death rate that these voyages held.
The slaves who were chained together Slept every night and remained in shelves built like bunk beds, as many as four high with about 20 inches of headroom per shelf.
They were often starved and left to sit in their own waist.
The women were Raped, Children were abused.
All were neglected, sometimes not being allowed to stand up for long periods of time, especially in storms, which were frequent
If they survived the trip, they were seasoned.
This means that they were taught to obey and to speak English, usually by harsh abuse
From their they were sold to the rich, who often found it more practical to work a slave to death and to pay for up keep of one slave.

What a mighty God we serve who has freed us from that Slavery
And as I think about what Great Things God Has done for us in freeing us from slavery.
I am reminded of Two passages and I would like to look at both of those passages today
Galatians 5:1-15
Galatians is a letter written to a church by Paul, who were turning away from the grace of God too a works based religion.
In other words they started to believe that they could work their way into heaven.
Read each section as you come to it.
