John 1:1–5 KJV 1900
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Introduction

Throughout the Gospel of John He gives us a picture of Jesues as the Christ The son of God
John does not argue the point of Christ’s diety but jumps right into the statement that Christ was the beginning and that christ was with God in the beginning
Matthew begins his gospel with the genealogy of Christ then tells of his conception and Birth
Mark Begins with Christ’s baptisim
Luke begins by telling the announcement of his birth
However as we see here John goes back to the beginning he starts with the secound person of the trinity dwelling with God
John 1:1–5 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

I. Christ in the beginning ( V. 1-2)

John 1:1–2 KJV 1900
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God.
The fist thing we notice here is the phrase “in the beginning” a phrase we also see in
Genesis 1:1 KJV 1900
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
then we see that the word was with God and the word was God
the greek word for word is logos and it is a noun
in this passage it is a title of Jesues understood as God’s ultemate comunication of truth about himself
So with this being said with the word=Jesues what does this tell us about christ?
1 He is eternal
in the beginning was the word
2. Christ was with God in the beginnig
The same was in the beginning with God
3. Christ is God-
3. Christ is God-
he word was God
Christ was eternal
John found this information out by the reavealing of it to Him by the holy spirit. Similarly Moses used the same phrase “in the beginning when he wrote the book of Genisis.
In the beginning when God created the world Christ existed!
Remeber as Christ was a boy the leaders were astonished by his knowledge. This was becaues he had existed before the beginning of all things
Christ was with God in the beginning
Christ was with God in the beginning He had always lived, just as God had always lived Christ and God are seprate members of the trinity but they had both existed from before time even begain.
before the foundations of the world were laid Christ was This verse is a verse that the Johvas witnesses hate they would translate this passage to the word was a god instead of the word was God
The litteral translation for verse 1 however is “the beginning was word word was God God was word” no where does it imply that it was a god but that it was The God
Christ was with God in the beginning further proof of this is the creation account
Genesis 1:26 KJV 1900
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
let us make man in our own image God was not alone, he was with the son and the holy spirit
let us make man in our own image God was not alone, he was with the son and the holy spirit
Christ is God

II. Christ as the creator

John 1:3 KJV 1900
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
God was the sourse of all things however Christ was there, therefore through him the creative prosess was done
We are told in this verse that without Christ not one thing that was made could have been made. Look around you at the world we live in the blue sky, the gordious mountins the blue sea, not a single one of theese things would have come into place without christ according to this verse
let his sink in for a moment He was there for creaqtion therforre:
our creator came to be our savior

III. Christ as life

John 1:4 KJV 1900
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1:
The life which we have is ours because we have believed in Christ Christ and his regeneration. He is the source of both physical and spiritual life
John 3:15–16 ESV
15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
There is only one way we can receive eternal life and that is through our belief in Christ.
Scripture tells us that once we are saved we are a new creature .
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
If one is not in christ they do not trully have life, they simply exist.
but once we have accepted christ as our savior we have this life
This life comes from Christ alone
This life affects evey part of us
Once we become a christian we ought to see powerful change in our life

IV. Christ is the light

John 1:5 KJV 1900
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
When Christ shines in the darkness the darkness can not overtake him
The light of Christ is everywhere but the world walks in darkness and not in the light
John 3:19 KJV 1900
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
lets supose you were in deep dark dungen, and the only hope you had for servival was to find a way out, obviously tou would be looking for a way out. lets say that light then appeard which
revealed stars which led to safty Would you walk in the light to get out ?
Today there are many dungons of sin the men in theese dungens have no hope but jesues shines in the darkness if they would just open there eyes they would see the light and find eternal life,
Are you walking in the light or the darkness tonight?
Are you walking in the light or the darkness tonight?
Application
1. is Christ your savior
2. If he is your savior are you sharing the light with others
