It had been two long years since I had given the interpretation of the dreams to the butler and the baker. I had asked the butler to not forget about me but I guess he did. For those two years I contemplated on how my life had gone so far. For the last 12 years my life had not been as good as I expected. I had dreams when I was young about things bowing down to me but I did not think it would happen in a dungeon. I did exactly what I thought God wanted me to do but now I am here in a dungeon a prison. I mean my brothers first tore my beautiful coat that my dad had made then they sold me for a miserable twenty shekels of silver. I did not even sell for what a normal slave would be bought that was around 30 shekels. Then I was resold to chief of police in Egypt. That was not a bad job but I stayed faithful to God even when my bosses wife wanted to hook up with me. Then I was sent to prison because she told her husband my boss that I tried to rape her. Now I find myself in this prison falsely accused and taking care of prisoners. I really do not feel loved nor that I was made to be a prison keeper. These has been the longest two years of my life. But all of a sudden the head guard of the prison came to me with new clothing and a razor. He told me shave get dressed that Pharaoh wants to talk to you. I shaved and got dressed. I was so nervous, my mind was thinking why would the king of Egypt want to talk to me? I was ready to see the king and he told me that his butler had told him about me. In my mind I thought finally somebody thought about me. He continued telling me about a dream that he had. He asked me if I could interpret it because his people was not able to. I assured him that I couldn’t but that my God could. The king continued to tell me about how he had dreamed about seven healthy cows being devoured by seven unhealthy cows and seven heads came out of a stalk of grain and another unhealthy seven heads came out of a stalk and devour the healthy seven heads of healthy stalk of grain. God interpreted the dream of seven years of healthy plenty of grain but then there will be seven years of famine. God counseled the king to save one fifth of all the grain that he would collect and store it for the famine years. In addition that king should put someone over that operation. I was astonished when He announced to all Egypt that I was going to be the next in command. The king then put on his singant ring on my finger and a neckless on me so everyone would know that I was the second in command. I was put on a robe of authority.
Seven years had gone by and the famine just hit. The food supply of all Egypt and surrounding areas was finishing. Just like God had predicted it happened. Now it was time to open the treasury of the palace to be able to sustain the needs of the people. But one early morning I saw ten men walk up to the storehouse. I knew that they where not from there because of the way that they dressed. Once they got closer I recognized them. I had not seen them in 20 years and the last time I did see them I was in a ditch and they where talking how they where planning to kill me. My emotions where wild and mixed. Half of my heart was hurt and angry. While the other half was wanting to be connected once again with my family and love them. What an mixture of emotions filled my heart. I gave them what they came for but kept one of my brothers captive while they brought my full blood brother. Nonetheless, after a while they brought my full blood brother. I made a feast for them. I enjoyed the time we spent together. Even though they did not know me I knew them. I played another prank on them and as my servant filled the sacks of grain they placed my silver cup into my younger brother’s sack. Now he was going to be blamed of being a thief. They where all brought back to my house thinking that they where going to be condemned. Nonetheless, one of my brother pleaded for the freedom of his brother and explained on how they where guilty of another brother which they sold into slavery and now he will not be able to make his father suffer another loss of another son. My heart was torn and I couldn’t hold it in anymore I cried out I am that brother that you sold into slavery I am your brother Joseph. I hugged them and we cried together.
Today's sermon is entitled, A Broken Hero!
Prayer
Genesis
Genesis 45:5 NKJV
But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.
God also sent someone else to preserve life. He left His crown and garment of king of kings and lord of lord to come down into this filthy world and save the lost. He also was sold into slavery for 30 pieces of silver. But this slave would pay the most price. This slave would pay with His life. He was stripped from his robes and placed a crown of thorns. His duty to preserve life was to carry a cross where he would be crucified and die to preserve life. The only reason because He loves us, He loves you! Jesus died for you that Friday evening but in three days the slave became king again when He resurrected from the dead to be able to continue to choose hero through brokenness.
Lesson #1 Even through your brokenness that this life offer you stay faithful.
Jesus has chosen you to be a hero for Him to preserve life.
-Even when you feel that your family or friends has betrayed you know that Jesus has already payed the price for you because He loves you.
-Even when the life is not going the way you thought is was going to go know that Jesus has already payed the price for you because He loves you.
-Even when you feel lonely because people are talking things that are not true know that Jesus is your comforter, knows the truth and has already payed the price for you because He loved you.
John 10:10 NKJV
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John
Jesus has chosen you so one day you will be able to turn in your dirty filthy garment and receive new robes that are dipped in the blood of Jesus and have a crown of gold. Are you ready to accept the call to be be chosen and give your all for the one who loved you enough to give all for you. The moment that you accept the call you become chosen for Him and you will receive a new robe.
