God’s Rest

Read once again. This time as you read, Beloved, consider what God is telling the recipients and what He is telling us about His rest. We need to understand what He means, so we shall not come short of it.

List below everything you learn from and 4 about this rest. You may have done this previously, but do not consult any previous work. Take a fresh look at these passages. It will be profitable.

1. Basically there are three different interpretations of "the rest" referred to in . They are as follows:

a. The faith-rest life-The faith-rest life is usually described as the realization that our walk is to be lived out practically by simply resting in the promises of God, rather than straining to please Him by our own efforts. It is to cease to strive to do it yourself, to rest in faith, and simply believe God. (; ; )

ba The millennial rest-This is a time when Christ will rule upon the earth for a thousand years, and Israel as a nation will fmally receive all that was promised to her under the New Covenant. Thus, Israel will live at rest in her promised land while Christ rules as King of kings. (, ; , ) See the chart entitled "God's Plan of the Ages." NOTE: Not everyone holds to a literal millennial reign of Christ on earth.

b. The millennial rest-This is a time when Christ will rule upon the earth for a thousand years, and Israel as a nation will finally receive all that was promised to her under the New Covenant. Thus, Israel will live at rest in her promised land while Christ rules as King of kings. (, ; , ) See the chart entitled "God's Plan of the Ages." NOTE: Not everyone holds to a literal millennial reign of Christ on earth.

27- 28; , ) See the chart entitled "God's Plan of the Ages." NOTE: Not everyone holds to a literal millennial reign of Christ on earth.

c. The eternal rest that includes the New Heaven and the New Earth(; ; )

2. You need to take an objective look at each of these interpretations. Observe how each interpretation compares with the description of "the rest" as given in and 4.
