A Warning against worldliness
Fighting among is caused by fighting within.
And what causes fighting within?
- Your passions!
The deep desires and feelings of your heart.
And these passions are at war within you.
This means that there is a yearning, a longing for something deep within us, and that longing causes us internal unsatisfaction that it actually manifests itself in the way we treat other people.
There is an emptiness inside out of that years and longs to be filled, and our problem is that we seek to fill this void with wrong things.
Look at the words, you have a desire for something more, you covet, long for something more, but nothing fills the hole.
and the more misrible we become from this feeling of emptiness, the more desperatr we become to fill it, and the more desperate we become the greater our change of sin.
Your desire leasds to murder!
Your coveting leads to theft! your passion nleads to sexual immorality!
Your wants lead to lies!
people try to fill this space with anything, drugs, alchohol, sex, money, possesions, violence.
We have this terrible desire for more within us and the drive to fill it caues us to enage in all manner of sin.
looking in all the wrong places.
note the very next line
You adulterous People! - what a shocking response!
Why do you think, out of all the words od could use: Stupid, foolish, blind, wicked, sinful, ignorant, arrogent - why does he choose the word Adulterous?
Becsud we are looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places!
Imagine a man, who is married and liker scripture says:
but imagine, he looks for satisfaction with other woman - what would you call that man? - an adultrer!
And that is God would call some you!
He wants to be your all.
He wants you to find your rest, peace and satisfaction in Him.
But instead, you hore yourself out to the God’ of this world, the god of mammon as you seek more oney, the God of baal as you seek convience, the god of moleck as you fornicate and look at porn.
What does ~od say in response to this?
This is what Jesus said:
He says that we have chosento fill the emptuness with not only the wrong things, but our choise to go after them has made us e=nemies of God!
What do we do?
Read on in v8
Repent!!!!
And what happens in response to our repentace?
He gives more grace!
God is yearing For You
We dont often meditate on this truth.
We know that we need God, and it is 100% true that God does not need us, he is perfecly self suffience and lacks nothing.
yet even though he does not need us, He years for us!
It mean: Longs for - it speaks of derly missing someone and longing for them to come so that you can hold them and love them.
That is what God is doing, this great God, who mad the universe, who spoke all of creation, who carved out the seas, who placed the stars in tghe sky, who calls them by name - this mighty God, longs for you to say:
“God, all I want, all i need - is you”.
