The Feast of Pentecost.
() When the day of Pentecost came, they were all
together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a
violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where
they were sitting.
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that
separated and came to rest on each of them.
All of them were filled
with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the
Spirit enabled them.
Acts 2:1-4
Hechos 2 Reina-Valera 1960 (RVR1960)
2 Y de repente vino del cielo un estruendo como de un viento recio que soplaba, el cual llenó toda la casa donde estaban sentados;
Pentecost is one of
the most important days in the history of Christianity.
This is where the church was birthed..
Jesus had instructed the disciples not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for “the gift” God promised.
This gift, Jesus said was that, “in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
They really had no idea what Jesus was talking about.
Why did Jesus choose Pentecost as the day when he would pour out the Spirit on the disciples?
There are two possible reasons, which are really one when you stop to think about it.
1.
On this Jewish holiday there would be a lot of pilgrims in Jerusalem from across the known world.
It was one of the three Jewish feasts that called for a pilgrimage to the Holy City.
It got its name, Pentecost (fiftieth), from the fact that it took place 50 days after Passover.
2.It was a feast of harvest.
That's what it is called in
(cf.).
(cf.).
Shavuot was the second great feast in Israel’s yearly cycle of holy days.
It was originally a harvest festival
Get to the upper room ( Ir a la aposento alto)
Before the discilpes got to the point of turning the world upside down for Jesus it started with them going to the upper room .. here were ordinary people who came together in the same spirit in obedience to what jesus spoke to them .. these disciples were filled with the power or the Holy Spirit and the fire that give them the boldness to change cities heal the sick , preach the gospel..
Church we need to make the step to the upper room ..we need the power of the Spirit of God we need the fire of the Holy Spirit.. the church , our marriage, our families, our communities , our children, are need of us going to the upper room ..not once more but on a daily basis .. if we want our healing , if we want our lives restored we must make time to go to the upper room .. but it takes a couple of things to get the upper room:
Obiendiance
Unity same spirit
Acts 2:1
When we go to that upper room the Holy Spirit comes in He comes to empower us so we can be an effective witness.
God wants all saved people to receive power from on High--power to witness, power to act, power to live, and power to show forth the divine manifestation of God within.
The power of God will take you out of your own plans and put you into the plan of God.
The Lord will change you and put His mind where yours was, and thus enable you to have the mind of Christ
Suddenly, revelation comes in our heart and mind, an we understand the Gospel in ways we never understood it before, and we are filled with the Holy Spirit and along with that comes a new confidence, a new courage, a new outlook and a new life.
Nothing is ever the same again.
Even though the disciples went through a tough situation, they had a promise from Jesus and they were obedient to his Word and God came through with some fresh power.
Today what we need our Christians who are filled with the Power of the Holy Ghost.
Not filled with hype, not filled with entertainment, not filled with noise, but people who know how to tap into the Power of God.. we need the Power and the fire of the Holy Spirit that will overflow to this generation and to the generations after..

To illustrate what it means to fan our spirit into flame, let’s say you go camping.
To make a fire, first you lay down some dry twigs as kindling, followed by layers of small branches and logs.
Then you light a match and set the kindling afire.
The flames spread, and you soon have a nice fire.
Warmed by the fire in the cold night air, you eventually fall asleep.
Later, you awaken to find you no longer have a fire burning.
But you do have some live embers.
You realize you don’t need another match to relight your fire; you just need to get down close to blow on the embers and then fan them.
With the increased oxygen, they become even hotter.
You add small branches and keep fanning until they’re set aflame.
Then you add logs, and soon you have a roaring fire again.
After we’ve been saved for a while, we may no longer be “burning.”
Our need is not to “relight” our spirit .Even when we aren’t burning, our spirit is still a “glowing ember” that was ignited with the fire of the Holy Spirit already.
We simply need to fan our spirit to give it more “oxygen” until it’s burning once more.
