What Do You Want for Your Children?

Most parents want their children to:
Be better people than they ever were.
Accomplish more than they have accomplished
2. Accomplish more than they have accomplished
Live a better life than they have lived
Live a better life than they ever lived.
3. Live a better life than they have lived
How do we make those desires a reality?
Fathers, as the Biblical head of our home, it is up to us to set the tone and to show the way.

The Current Situation

Overall, I believe that men might do the natural side of being a father: providing, caring & nurturing, teaching natural skills (time management, finances, building stuff), showing our kids how to do crazy things
BUT...
Are we teaching our children how to supernaturally God’s BEST life?
I believe that we can ONLY pass on a superior life by passing on a supernatural life
Mark 10:27 KJV 1900
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

What Supernatural Fatherhood/Parenting Looks like

Proverbs 22:6 NKJV
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Training-the action of teaching a person or animal a particular skill or type of behavior.
Training (Definition): the action of teaching a person or animal a particular skill or type of behavior.

2596. חָנַךְ chânak, khaw-nak´; a prim. root; prop. to narrow [comp. 2614]; fig. to initiate or discipline:—

Matthew 7:13–14 NKJV
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Deuteronomy 11:18–23 NKJV
18 “Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 20 And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth. 22 “For if you carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do—to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—23 then the Lord will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than yourselves.

Some Evaluation Questions:

As Father’s Are We:

Teaching (through modeling an authentic example) our children to have a zeal and love for God’s house?
Demonstrating a visible commitment to the “Basics of Christianity”? - Reading the Bible daily, praying daily, communing with God, worshipping God, prioritizing God
Modeling obedience to God as well as or better than we expect our children to be obedient to us?
Showing our children how to have a God-first response, or to have a natural-first response?
Demonstrating Christ’s love for His bride through the way we love and give ourself to our wife?
Exemplifying and talking about things like: giving, living by faith, obedience to & reliance upon God in tough situations, Godly responses in unfavorable circumstances and relationships?
Showing the way and training our children into that way, or are we just “hoping” they will end up there?
I firmly believe that there is a time when children are old enough and trained enough to make decisions that will bless their life. However, to simply allow our children to make all of their decisions when they don’t have the matured & trained faculties to do so may easily cause more harm and hurt than freedom.
A huge part of supernatural fathering/parenting is positioning, equipping, & training our children to follow a supernatural God Supernaturally.
Training is purposeful and the results of training are rarely obtained accidentally.
We’ve gotta know it, do it, and live it before we can pass it on effectively to our children
I know it sounds hard, but YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Remember, you want your kids to
Be better people than you are
Accomplish more than you have accomplish
Live a better life than you live
Tom Coleman - “Don’t decrease the goal. Increase the effort.”

Just One Thing:

Live it then train it!
The big desires you have for your children’s lives are absolutely possible through Christ. Train them to live Supernaturally.

Discussion Questions:

What invention doesn’t get a lot of love, but has greatly improved the world?
Please share what stood out to you the most from this message and why.
Read and share what training in Godliness looks like to you. (Remember: training= to narrow)
Perhaps you have trained for something (e.g. a job, or sports) in what ways can you apply that same thing as a coach or as one being trained.
