Juneteenth history and parallel to people being free but not knowing it. 1/1/1863. April 1865. June 19, 1865. General Granger

1. Message of Release (v.1)

The author of our text is traditionally held to be Isaiah, but the author is not the one talking. Back in chapter 50, the Lord begins to weigh in on the condition of His people and says that He is going to come down. So Isaiah is preaching the message of the Lord that will have its later fulfillment in the life and death of Jesus.
The message is one of hope that one day the people of God would be free:
Good news to the Poor: Listen I don’t care how you chop it up good news to the poor is never good news to power.
heal the brokenhearted: Only God can heal the brokenhearted. Some things that happen can’t be fixed, but just because it can’t be fixed doesn't mean it can’t be healed.
Liberty to the captives (captured stolen), open the prison (eyes open).

2. Message of Retribution (v.2)

The acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God. There is going to be a year of God’s favor and a time of God’s vengeance. The year of favor was the time in which God would bring back Israel from captivity and accept them all, also fast forward to Jesus, now through Jesus all are welcome to come to Jesus. That because of Jesus we now know that all can be accepted and receive the indiscriminate favor of God.
But, what we must also know is that there is also a day of vengeance coming. That is the day that God is going to go back to his eternal record book, hes going to open the ledger and say to the ungodly
“Remember when…? Well today is the Day. Pay up!” (Run)

3. Ministry of Restoration (v.3)

What I love about our God is that He isn’t all about talk. The prophet the mission of the Messiah from just proclaiming to practicing. At this point he wan’ts the people of God to know that once they are free, once their enemies are done away with, there is going to be restoration of what the enemy tried to take away. There is an atmosphere of mourning during these times, when the prophet spoke, when Jesus walked, and when the slaves were captive. But, God has a way a comforting us.

Beauty for ashes-Headdress for ashes
oil of joy for mourning
garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness
