Last Week’s Recap.

1. YHWH is unique, uncreated, eternal, preexisting, non-corporeal, triune in nature and person, he is elohim. Yet at the same time exists also as physical, like man, the exact image and representation of Himself, appearing as but not as YHWH, distinct yet one, the preexisting Word of God, the Wisdom by which God created all things in heaven and on earth. Even still from this Second person of the Godhead proceeds His Spirit who exalts the Son by representing the Father.

God(YHWH) is One, there is no other besides Him, He is three in one. Father, Son, Spirit; all coeternal and preexistent.

2. YHWH created the “angels”, the elohim of His council. They are created beings, as such they are lesser and different the YHWH. He is El Elyon, God Most High; they are bene elim, Sons of God.

They witnessed creation (Job), when mankind rebelled against God, He put some of these bene elim over the different nations (), Those Sons of God rebelled and set themselves up as “gods” (, ), and God will judge them for this disloyalty ().

3. The Hebrew writers of the Old Testament held the worldview that the nations were ruled by so-called, lesser gods, Sons of God, created elohim. They knew YHWH was an elohim but no other elohim was YHWH. Many, if not the majority of the post exodus Hebrews worshipped these lesser elohim.

4. Hebrews authors, both in the OT and outside it, reference on many occasions the “Second Power in Heaven”, the that is but isn’t YHWH, the physical form of the invisible God, His Word in flesh, His Presence manifested in person, His Image alive, His Representation to the People.

Second Temple Period Rabbis began to ponder and speculate who this second power may be. They knew He was One with God and was elevated above all other bene elim. They thought Adam, Moses, Melchizedek, Michael, Enoch and others.

5. Jesus, in claims to be the “ego emi” the “I AM”, the greek representation of God’s divine name give to Moses, YHWH. The Pharisees and Scribes knew He was claiming to be the little YHWH of the scriptures, that He was claiming to be God.

This validated His transfiguration as a step towards the judgement of the rebellious Sons of God, in that states that the “God Man” would “anasta or anastasis” and overcome/reclaim the nations for YHWH.

Jesus knows whats up.

John 8:59–9:1 NKJV
Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.

now before we move forward, lets just preface the way we study the Bible.

Exegetical - what was the original text?

here we apply hermeneutics as well, this is were last week I said we need to be careful not to read our tradition and theology into the text were it wasn’t at the time present.
It is important to understand the culture and customs, the language, the contemporary literature, and religious systems
for example, Jesus here in John...
next is the

Expositional - what is the text meaning?

this differs depending on who you may ask...
that is okay, remember our understanding of scripture is not sacred, the scripture itself is...
inspiration
2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
not a paranormal event, but rather divine providence, preserved by God for us...
our expositional outcome should line up fairly close to the exegetical representation...
what is meant here is that we shouldn’t create theologies that are foreign to the context of the biblical writers - ancient aliens does this...
lastly

Homiletical - how does the text apply to me?

sermonizing and preaching...
confession- I like exposition more than homily… teacher v. preacher
that said we try to have a take home...
why all this on a short week, well we are setting the stage for the next couple weeks of our study in

- The Story of Us.

The Woes of the Blind Man

The Witness of the Blind Man

The Worship of the Blind Man

homework, read it...
this will really be a homiletical study...
that said
look for expositional truths too...
why is it so important that Jesus heals so many blind people...
worship team back
