Darling Soph:

You were born of a parental love-in.  Right off we got hooked on you, and we didn’t need LSD to get turned on.  You were our thing, and we built our establishment around you.  We held daily demonstrations of our loyalty.  We resisted all injustices toward you.  We practiced non-violence against you even under provocation.  We held all-night sit-ins at your bedside when you were sick. and there was pot, much pot, which we carried to and from, and when the fever went up to 104 we held a pray-in to overcome.  We gave you free love, a wall-to-wall carpeted pad of your own, and the best education we could (or could not) afford.  We never freaked out when the going was rough.  Now you are ready to remake the world for a better.  We are with you.  Just one request, if we may.  When the brotherhood of man is established, could you maybe make the membership broad enough to include motherhood and fatherhood?  We want in.  We want in!  We, too, belong to now, and we cherish our now dearly.  Because we can’t count on as much of it as you can.  Toss us a flower now and then – preferably now!

Lovingly yours,

The Committee for Peace Love and Amnesty for Parents
