Introduction
We are continuing to go through the book of Esther.
We have made it to the third chapter and we are only going to make it through verse seven today.
It is an often overlooked verse but I feel it is a very powerful verse.
Esther 3:7
We over look this passage because we see a man doing what so many people do in the Bible.
We begin to boo and Hiss at Purim because Haman is mentioned.
but this is an important verse, because Haman was the only one in this story, so far, asking his god for advice on what to do next.
And according to Persian custom, he had all the voodoo doctors come over and cast the Pur to determine the will of the gods
The word Pur is the Akkadian word for stone.
The Stones were usually made from baked clay and shaped like modern dice, marked on all six sides, and cast out from a bowl.
(Stevenson, 236)
So Haman rolled the dice and they happened to land on the thirteenth day of Adar.
Which as it would happen would be the day before they would celebrate Passover as a nation to remember how God delivered them from slavery in Egypt 900 years earlier.
This would fall in February to April of the year 474 BC.
More than 4 years have elapsed since Esther became queen.
And Esther who is in a weak position as “queen” will have about 11 months to save herself, her family, and her people.
The Jews Were about to get an unforgettable and really unwanted, though maybe needed, reminder that God was not just a Saviour in the past.
He is the savior in the present as well.
God determines the roll of the dice.
He is going to bring about a miracle on a particular day to move their hearts back into fellowship with Him.
Savior Then And Now
This is something that we need to remember as well.
He is our saviour then and Now.
If you have not ABC
If you have we need to remember his Grace.
His grace changes the way we deal with others
He Grace deals with the way we deal with ourselves
Remember who He is
As we r ember that he is the savior we must remember to look to Him as our Lord as well
It is interesting that the person looking to the gods is not the believers in YHWH but the one who fallows all those other gods.
If we forget who he is in our life we can be tempted to turn to other gods even if we don’t realize it.
Thus we must test the spirits.
Who are we listening to, is part of remembering who he is.
False teachings are everywhere.
they are abundant.
how do we realize them we compare them to the word and love of Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:10 tells us that distinguishing the spirits is a spiritual gift.
though we are all to do it.
Some have a supernatural ability and your job is to help protect the congregation.
and as that person works we must test it for ourselves.
