Solomon was looking for meaning and purpose of life independent of God and he had the resources and means to seek whatever his hearts desire.
Solomon also had the wisest mind to seek all this.

Solomon had more wealth, power, influence and wisdom that any of us could even imagine and he was not ever satisfied.
There can be joy in projects if it is submitted to the LORD.
