The Philosopher's Wife

The story is told of an old philosopher in Athens who didn’t get along very well with his wife. On one occasion she went to the Agora and sought out the old sage, boisterously giving him a piece of her mind. The old man sat there stoically and said nothing. Infuriated all the more at being ignored, his wife picked up a bucket of cold water and poured it on his head soaking the old man. “Now, what do you say to that?” she chided.  Smugly, he turned toward his aggressive wife and retorted, “Well dear, after all the thunder and lightning, I rather expected a shower!”
