One Thursday evening, a young couple came into the luggage department of the store where I work. They could not agree on one large suitcase or two smaller ones. Their disagreement grew into a full-fledged shouting match and culminated with the woman storming out of the store. The man, still steaming, approached my register and said, “We want the large suitcase.”
“Why not wait until next week when the piece you want will be on sale?” I suggested, hoping to defuse the tense situation.
