Introduction

Psalm 29 KJV 1900
A Psalm of David. 1 Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. 2 Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. 3 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: The God of glory thundereth: The Lord is upon many waters. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty. 5 The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; Yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn. 7 The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire. 8 The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; The Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to calve, And discovereth the forests: And in his temple doth every one speak of his glory. 10 The Lord sitteth upon the flood; Yea, the Lord sitteth King for ever. 11 The Lord will give strength unto his people; The Lord will bless his people with peace.

Worship the Lord for His Glory (V. 1-2)

Psalm 29:1–2 KJV 1900
1 Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. 2 Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
The Psalmest begins by reflecting upon worhip to the Lord
He says Give unto the Lord
The Word Give here could be better translated ascribe as many of your translations lickly say.
It is an imparitive and is a much stronger word than just give
When we give somthing what do we do? we hand it to the person right?
To ascribe is to give credit to. this word is an imparitive interjection
Ascribe unto the Lord
glory and Power
The Psalmest is amazed by the glory and power of God.
many have glory and many have power but no one has the glory and power that the Lord does and the Psalmest is saying that the glory and power should be ascribed to the Lord.
glory due to His name
Not only ascribe glory and power, ascribe the glory due to His name
How much glory is due to the Lord?
an infinite amount right?
Worship The Lord in Splender of His holiness
The pasalmest finishes His opening statement of awe with by reflection on the splender and holyness of God.
The Splender
When we enter the Glory of Heaven and stand before God we will be in awe who he is.
Seeing the Glory of our God will be an amazing thig
people talk anout when they get to heaven wanting to go see a relitive or a famous Bible charecter
We will get there, but I don’t think we will care much about them when we enter heaven.
We will want to see our Great God and we will Hit the floor in Worship to Him

Worship the Lord for His Sovrigenty (V. 3-9)

Psalm 29:3–9 KJV 1900
Psalm 27:3–9 ESV
3 Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. 4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. 5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. 6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord. 7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! 8 You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.” 9 Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation!
This is the main Point of the text the sovrigenty of God!
last week we discussed how God loves us and how it is Biblical to lement and its ok to cry
We cant just tell people God is sovrign you should get over it
but God is sovrign, and today we will observe this. There are nine ways the Psalmest describes this
The Psalmest uses several anelogies to show the reader the power of the Lords Voice and His sovrignty
The Voice of the Lord is:
Upon the waters
The God of glory thundereth:
The Lord is upon many waters.
The Psalmest is decribing the Lords control over nature
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
The Psalmest again returns to Power
God is all powerful
Have you turned your problums over to Him
The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
Majesty refers to the quality of a person or thing which inspires awe or reverence in the beholder
When God works we should have awe in what He does
too often we refer to works of God being what we want and not what His will is.
The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars;
A ceder tree would have been reconized as one of the largest, if not the largest tree known to man
yet the Psalmest says the voice of God even breaks the ceders
Yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
The ceder trees in Lebnon were known for there great size
They were as large as 40ft in diamieter and pere commenly used for pillers and beames
1 Kings 5:6 KJV 1900
6 Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
He maketh them also to skip like a calf; and Sirion like a young unicorn.
He maketh them also to skip like a calf;
The point be
Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
The basic primice is that God can make theese massive trees move.
notice our version refers to a young Unicorn
yet the Psalmest says the voice of God even breaks the ceders
This is not refering to a pink hourse with a horn on its head
For those of you that are not reading
Notice what the Christian standard says
Psalm 29:6 NKJV
6 He makes them also skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.
A yong wild ox, that is the litteral meaning of the Hebrew word used here.
Psalm 29:7 ESV
7 The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
Psalm 29:9 ESV
9 The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth and strips the forests bare, and in his temple all cry, “Glory!”
Psalm 29:8 ESV
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
Psalm 29:10 ESV
10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire.
Have you ever seen flames of fire just split down the middle?
The Psalmest tells us that the Voice of the Lord can accomplish this
The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness;
The Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
If you have ever been in a wilderness you Know the peace and quiet that exists there, but the voice of the Lord even shakes this wilderness
The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to calve,
Litterally means makes the deer to give birth
again if we note the Christian standard
Psalm 29:9 CSB
9 The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth and strips the woodlands bare. In his temple all cry, “Glory!”
Psalm
And discovereth the forests: And in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.
And discovereth the forests:
The bottom line that we see here is the voice of God in Hs sovrignty should make us all stand in awe and cry Glory!
And in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.
God knows all and watches over all when He speaks it hapends
Are you trusting in God’s sovriginty today?

Worhip the Lord for His Majety (V. 10-11)

Psalm 29:10–11 KJV 1900
10 The Lord sitteth upon the flood; Yea, the Lord sitteth King for ever. 11 The Lord will give strength unto his people; The Lord will bless his people with peace.
The Psalmest ends with a final worship to the Lord for His great majesty.
The Psalmest ends with a final worship to the Lord for His great majesty.
The Lord is enthroned over the sea (flood)
The Lord is King forever
The Psalmest ends by saing that the Lord will give strength to His People and bless His People with Peace
Application
Do you glory in the Majesty of God
Do you trust in the sovrigty of God
this week when you have someting difficult come your way remind yourself the God’s God’s Got it Its ok to lement, but it is not ok not to Trust
