Title - Keeping The Feast Pure
Background
Paul was addressing a problem in the midst the Corinthian church
a man in the church was having sexual relations with his father’s wife
the church was aware of it, but they were not addressing the problem
Paul commands that the person should be “delivered to Satan for the destruction of the flesh”
Paul compared the problem to leaven
“a little leaven leavens the qhole lump”
sin that is not removed from their midst will eventually infect the whole congregation
Paul compared the church’s spiritual condition to the feast of unleavend bread instituted by God in Israel
Christ is our Passover
the Church is celebrating the feast of unleavened bread
When God was bringing Israel out of Egypt, He also institued 2 feasts
the feast of passover -
the feast of unleavend bread -
Paul was showing the significance of the feast to the spiritual life of the church
the Passover marks the deliverance of Israel from God’s judgment upon Egypt
the feast of the unleavened bread signifies the deliverance and cleansing of Israel from the power and influence of Egypt
My Main Point
If God has truly delivered us from sin and evil in this world, we should not allow its sinful influence to make its way inside the church.
Because are supposed to be celebrating our freedom from the power of sin
the “leaven” - stands for the sinful acts that are in direct violation of God’s moral truths
sins described in the 10 commandments
actions and behaviors that cause us to transgress the Word of God
Jesus was our Passover - He died to judge “Egypt” in our lives, and to pay the price of our redemption
The Church, as a result, has become “unleavend” - cleansed, purified
The Church is THE unleavened bread -
The Church is celebrating the feast of unleavened bread that began after Passover was killed at Calvary
Sermon Points
If the church is “truly unleavend”, how can we keep the feast pure from worldly defilement?
Identify the leaven in our midst
the church thought that everything was alright despite the problem
What does th
The church must not ignore the presence of “leaven” in their midst
,
The church must identify which acts are sinful and which are not
Purge out the old leaven
Purge - to clean out
old leaven - sinful acts and ideas that belong to the old life of sin
The church must remove the sin in her midst
The church must impose disciplinary actions people may learn to fear God
Keep the feast of unleavened
keep the feast - one word meaning “to celebrate the festival”
celebrate the festival of unleavened bread
Until the leaven is removed, we are not truly celebrating the feast of unleavened bread.
If the church cannot or will not do her part, God will be forced to intervene with judgment
If the church ca
Conclusion
It is the responsibility of the church and her people to keep the celebration of the feast of unleavened bread clean and pure.
