1 Chronicles 14:13–17 KJV 1900
13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. 14 Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. 15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. 16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer. 17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.
1 Chronicles 14:12–17 KJV 1900
12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
The philistines were an interestine group of ppl in the Bible
They were first mentioned in as the children of Ham
7 major battles were faoght between Israel and the Philistines.
2 Sam only 24 times...
David all but wipes them out.
The Prophet Zephaniah prophesied the end for the Philistines as he wrote “Woe to you inhabitants of the seacoast, you nation of the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; and I will destroy you until no inhabitant is left” ().
Jeremiah the Prophet wrote of a similar fate of the Philistines that Zephaniah had written, “the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remains. For the Lord is destroying the Philistines, the remnant of the coastland of Caphtor” () but the final nail in the Philistines coffin comes from the judgment of God as Ezekiel wrote, “Thus says the Lord God: Because the Philistines acted revengefully and took vengeance with malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity, therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast” ().

During the time of the judges in Israel, the Philistines were often a thorn in Israel’s side.
During the time of the judges in Israel, the Philistines were often a thorn in Israel’s side.
Jephthah, Shamgar, and Samson all fought against Philistia.
During Solomon’s reign in Israel, the Philistines were subdued, yet the later prophets note that the Philistines continued to war against Israel. The Philistines were devastated by the same Assyrian Kingdom that overtook Israel (). Philistia was not completely destroyed until the time of the Babylonian and Persian Empires.
The Philistines’ eventual defeat was not due to Israel’s strength or military prowess.
(KJV 1900)
3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them: But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou hadst a favour unto them.
Neither did their own arm save them:
But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance,
Because thou hadst a favour unto them.
1 Sam mentions Philistines over 100 times
2 Sam only 24 times...
David all but wipes them out.
Jeremiah, Zephaniah and Ezekiel all prophesied against Philistia…
The Prophet Zephaniah prophesied the end for the Philistines as he wrote “Woe to you inhabitants of the seacoast, you nation of the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; and I will destroy you until no inhabitant is left” ().

During Solomon’s reign in Israel, the Philistines were subdued, yet continue to be a small problem for Israel.
The Philistines were devastated by the same Assyrian Kingdom that overtook Israel ().
Philistia was not completely destroyed until the time of the Babylonian and Persian Empires.
(KJV 1900)
But at the time of our text, Philistia was still a very real problem...
3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them: But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou hadst a favour unto them.
They had just suffered a devastating defeat from David...
1 Chronicles 14:12 KJV 1900
12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
Love this!
David routed the enemy so strong that they were on the run… full retreat, #davidsgoingtokillusall - don’t stop for your gods, full blown route!
I see this as a nonchalant - nothing better to do - David standing there with a whimsical look on his face, little smile playing at the corner of his tired mouth - and with a flip of his hand, just burn them!
Philistia has nothing we want.
Nothing we need!
Nothing to serve!
Burn it!
He was not afraid of Dagon
I think that sometimes we trick ourselves into being afraid of the devil!
He’s strong and powerful...
He was not afraid of Dagon
Don’t poke the bear pastor, you don’t want to get him mad at you!
Question: Why?
Why don’t you want to get him mad at you?
You think he’s going to come visit you in the middle of the night?
Try to intimidate you?
Beat you up?
Kill you?
Jennifer Mendyke (sp)
WE DON’T HAVE TO BE AFRAID OF SATAN ANY MORE THAN DAVID WAS AFRAID OF DAGON!
- SHOW PIC OF DAGON
YES! He is a MerMAN!!!!!!
Satan has some of you so fooled!
You think he is some big bad hombre but he is NOT!
Shortly thereafter that David and Israel go to battle again with Philistia.
David did what EVERY good leader does…
First he prayed!
Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
David’s formula for success: 1. Pray 2. Respond in Faith 3. Give God the Glory
When David asked God, he was told no - don’t do it like lasts time.
Go hide among the mulberry trees and when you hear the sound of the going you attack.
First; pillars of fire and cloud
I have been asked in the past, what did they hear?
Was it wind?
Was it an angelic army?
Breath of God?
Never had an answer before...
I believe it was the sound of a Devine Shift!
Sound is used to announce things whether it is a whistle, clapped hands or a sharp “hey”. It can be trumps, a bing from your phone or a clap of thunder
Sound is used to indicate something has changed!
Whether it was God’s voice thundering into nothing, “Let there be light”
Whether it was a still small voice in a cave that spoke so loud to the Prophet Elijah after the wind, earthquake and fire
Voice of John the Baptist crying out in the wilderness
Of a voice from heaven saying; “this is my beloved son...”
Or the SOUND mighty rushing wind that blew through the Upper Room that day!
Sound is the best way to get someones attention!
When David heard the sound of the going he new that something had changed!
Something was different!
On this Unique Wednesday, I’ve come to say that I hear a new sound!
You may not realize it yet
May not hear it yet
BUT I hear it!
One of the greatest travesties of the modern church is our inability to hear the wind of change
We have got to recognize the sound!
Recognize the sound
We have got to the place where we dread the attack of the devil
Not recognizing that the only reason your under attack is to take something from you or keep from something!
But I come to serve notice on the devil, what I got, he can’t have and what he has I am taking!
John 10:10 KJV 1900
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Abundantly: exceeding the usual number or size, pertaining to that which is not ordinarily encountered, extraordinary, remarkable, being extraordinary in amount, abundant, profuse, beyond measure
being extraordinary in amount, abundant, profuse
to that which is not ordinarily encountered, extraordinary, remarkable
exceeding the usual number or size
Ephesians 3:20–21 KJV 1900
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
There is a shift that is taking place…
All across our nation and around the world!
There is a shift taking place in our city!
If you will recognize it you will hear it as the unprecedented violence of the past few week in Lincoln!
The enemy is throwing a temper tantrum
At 6:43 today: “Lincoln police arrest hit man threatening to shoot people”!
TLC, you can’t stop me!
You can’t have revival!
You can’t sell this building!
Where will you go?
You will never be more than you are!
You will never see 100 again!
You might as well run up a white flag
All I can say is I recognize your inept attempt to stop us, Satan and you are not going to succeed!
THERE IS A DEVINE SHIFT that I hear
I see your attempt!
Mass killing in US in last three days - the enemy saying I still control and have power no matter what 37K kids say!
Yes I just said that the mass killings are a product of NAYC!
Serve notice on the enemy:
Satan, you can’t have my family!
Satan, you can’t have my church!
Satan, you can’t have my city!
Satan, you can’t have my state!
Satan, you can’t have my nation!
Leave Israel alone!
The more you fuss the more powerless you reveal yourself to be!
This building is going to sell!
Where we are headed will blow your mind!
What do you hear?
No coincidence that we have been silenced tonight!
