*Greet Congregation -Good Morning I welcome you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
*Turn in your Bible to repeat It can be found on Pg. 625 in your pew Bible.
People of God, have confidence that when the enemies of God conspire against the church, God will destroy them if they don’t turn to Christ.
Martyrdom is not just an ancient act. Many believers are still losing their lives for accepting Jesus Christ as Lord. Mansuur Mohammed, a Somali aid worker, received Jesus Christ as his savior in 2006. Militants from the al Shabab group captured him in 2008 and paraded him before villagers in Manyafulka, who had gathered at the insistence of the militant group. The militant leaders began to recite from the Quran, accusing Mohammed of apostasy. A witness said Mohammed remained composed, never uttering a word, as his captors yelled “Allahu akbar” (“God is great”) and then beheaded him. Some say the video of his death is being circulated in an attempt to prevent Muslims from converting to Christianity.
The enemy is still at work in the 21st century, adding to the countless numbers of men and women who have held steadfast to their faith while being put to death.
“Jesus Christ is Lord” has been uttered now for 2000 years, and the enemy is still trying to silence the voices of the faithful.
· So as you can see from this story of Mansuur Mohammed
· If you stand up to the enemies of God, they will take your life for the gospel’s sake.
· THOSE WHO CONSPIRE AGAINST THE CHURCH, Islam, Buddhists, The gay and lesbian movement, Those who kill the unborn and all unbelievers who attack the followers of Christ Jesus.
· These groups today are like the nations listed in who conspire against God they are the Modern day Edomites and the children of Lot.
But remember People of God, have confidence that when the enemies of God conspire against the church, God will destroy them if they don’t turn to Christ.

83 A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.
1 O God, do not keep silence;
do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
2 For behold, your enemies make an uproar;
those who hate you have raised their heads.
3 They lay crafty plans against your people;
they consult together against your treasured ones.
4 They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
5 For they conspire with one accord;
against you, they make a covenant—
6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
Moab and the Hagrites,
7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8 Asshur also has joined them;
they are the strong arm of the children of Lot. Selah
9 Do to them as you did to Midian,
as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
10 who were destroyed at En-dor,
who became dung for the ground.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves
of the pastures of God.”
13 O my God, make them like whirling dust,
like chaff before the wind.
14 As fire consumes the forest,
as the flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so may you pursue them with your tempest
and terrify them with your hurricane!
16 Fill their faces with shame,
that they may seek your name, O Lord.
17 Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever;
let them perish in disgrace,
18 that they may know that you alone,
whose name is the Lord,
are the Most High over all the earth.
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
*Brief Prayer of Illumination -LET US PRAY
Father in heaven gives us your people ears to hear what your Word and Spirit would have us to learn regarding this important text in Christ name AMEN.
· NOW IN OUR TEXT, WE HAVE THE ENEMIES OF GOD COMING AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF GOD.
· AND SOMETIMES THE SAINTS DIE OR ARE TAKEN CAPTIVE, BUT GOD WILL DELIVER HIS PEOPLE.
· AND SOMETIMES GOD STRIKES DOWN OUR ENEMIES GIVING THEM INTO OUR HANDS.
1. We see the Enemies of God are conspiring to overtake the people of God. vs. 1-8
Vs. 2For behold, your enemies make an uproar;
those who hate you have raised their heads.
3 They lay crafty plans against your people;
they consult together against your treasured ones.
4 They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
5 For they conspire with one accord;
against you, they make a covenant
· These enemies are specific they make a covenant
· In the Hebrew, this is a “Brit” בְּרִית
· As covenanters and the people of God, we understand the seriousness of a covenant.
· So, the enemies of God were willing to cut or divide an animal and pass between the pieces saying if either of us breaks this covenant we shall become like this animal. DEAD
Enemies of Israel and Judah
Synopsis Throughout their history, Israel and Judah contended with enemies committed, to their destruction, finding refuge only in their covenant-keeping God.
So in comparison we see the Enemies of God make covenants like our God and the people of God make covenants.
Let’s look at the History of some of these nations as they relate to .
Philistines & Ammonites
(ESV) — 7 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites, 8, and they crushed and oppressed the people of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
Egypt
(ESV) — 8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. 10 Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” 11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses.
The Amalekites
(ESV) — 13 He gathered to himself the Ammonites and the Amalekites and went and defeated Israel. And they took possession of the city of palms.
The Assyrians
(ESV) — 13 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.
The Babylonians
(ESV) — 5 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord his God. 6 Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and bound him in chains to take him to Babylon.
The Edomites
(ESV) — 14 And the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite. He was of the royal house in Edom.
The Syrians
(ESV) — 8 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia. And the people of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years.
The Moabites
(ESV) — 12 And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel because they had done what was evil in the sight of the Lord.
· God promised to punish and discipline his people if they did not obey him.
· And God uses his and our enemies to carry out this punishment for OUR SIN.
· And when we are put in this position, we finally regain our senses and call out to Christ for Salvation and Deliverance from our enemies and our sins.
· And this is what the people of God do in vs. 9-15 they call out for deliverance and Gods justice to come against his enemies.
Next… We see the calling down of destruction on Gods Enemies in the past vs 9-15.
Do to them as you did to Midian,
as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
10 who were destroyed at En-dor,
who became dung for the ground.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves
of the pastures of God.”
13 O my God, make them like whirling dust,
like chaff before the wind.
14 As fire consumes the forest,
as the flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so may you pursue them with your tempest
and terrify them with your hurricane!
· Some of the history from this section of the Psalm is …
In Endor, Saul is destroyed
7 Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek out for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “Behold, there is a medium at En-dor.”
· This was to be the prediction of the destruction of Saul, the enemy of God
Gideon Conquers Zeeba and Zalmunna
21 Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, “Rise yourself and fall upon us, for as the man is, so is his strength.” And Gideon arose and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and he took the crescent ornaments that were on the necks of their camels. 22 Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, you and your son and your grandson also, for you have saved us from the hand of Midian.23 Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, and my son will not rule over you; the Lord will rule over you.”
· Gideon gave God the glory for the destruction of his enemies
· And so we as the people of God should give glory for the destruction of our enemies.
4. Davids attitude towards God’s enemies in (ESV) — 45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head.
· David feared the Lord and carried out the wrath of God on his and Gods enemies.
We see Gods call to repent to these rebellious nations. vs. 16
16 Fill their faces with shame,
that they may seek your name, O Lord.
· This is the case for us that we have to come to our end before we will seek the Lord.
· And So as We were once enemies of Christ, WE THEN LEARN OF THE SHAME OF OUR SIN, AND WE TURN TO CHRIST WHO IS OUR ONLY HOPE OUR ONLY REFUGE.
· And we should pray that our enemies would come to their end and be shamed for their sinful deeds against Gods people so that they might turn to Christ.
We see this in our society today
1. The enemies of God continue to promote the death of infants in the womb.
2. The enemies of God continue to kill Muslims who convert to Christ.
3. The enemies of God seek to promote that we can all COEXIST if you have seen the bumper sticker.
4. The enemies of God try to take our use of firearms to defend our families by disarming us and letting people come into our country illegally and kill and murder our wives and sons and daughters.
5. The enemies of God seek to persecute our brothers and sisters in China for worshiping the true and living God.
· IF THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE WORLD AND THOSE WHO SERVE FALSE GODS LIKE BUDAH, ALLAH, AND THE GOD OF SELF WILL NOT TURN TO CHRIST then verses. 17-18 are for them.
4. We see the call for the destruction of these nations that did not repent. vs. 17-18
17 Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever;
let them perish in disgrace,
18 that they may know that you alone,
whose name is the Lord,
are the Most High over all the earth.
AND WE ARE!!! TO PRAY THAT ALL WHO WILL NOT REPENT AND THAT PERSECUTE GODS PEOPLE THAT THEY WOULD BE
· DISMAYED FOREVER
· PERISH IN DISGRACE
· This is the right thing to pray for those who martyr our brothers in Christ like Mansuur Mohammed
· May God strike down the al Shabab group that captured him in 2008
· May God strike down planned parenthood who kills the innocent of our land in the womb.
· May God strike down the officials of New York and any other state official that promotes the death of the innocent.
· May God strike down the Chinese officials who are persecuting the Early Rain church in China
· May God strike down the homosexual who assaults Christian families and firebombs pastors.
· AND GOD WILL STIKE THEM DOWN SO THAT JESUS CHRIST Whose NAME IS LORD WOULD BE PROCLAIMED EVEN ON THEIR LIPS
· AND HIS ENEIMEIES AS WE DO WILL CALL CHRIST JESUS “THE MOST HIGH OVER ALL THE EARTH.”
· So People of God, have confidence that when the enemies of God conspire against the church, God will destroy them if they don’t turn to Christ.
*Let us pray
Father, we thank you for this teaching on how we are to think about your enemies in this world. And how we are to pray and sing that they would be converted or be put to death. We pray that you would be glorified and that your kingdom would come and that your will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. Lord help us and enable us to turn to your son Jesus who is the only mediator between God and man. In Christ name, Amen.
AMEN.
