Luke 17:32 AV
32 Remember Lot’s wife.
lets remebner her:
Lot and his wife lived in Sodom, a place of evil, whcih reprersents the evil of all ther World.
Genesis 18:20 AV
20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
2 Peter 2:6 AV
6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
God sends 2 Angels to Sodom with a mission to destory it.
Genesis 19:1 AV
1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
But God also made oppertunity for those who wish to forsake Sodom, Lot and his Family to escape the coming judgment.
Genesis 19:12–13 AV
12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
Ok Let us stop there for just a oment.
History is repeating itself.
God has sent his His Son into the world, to offer salvation:
John 3:17 AV
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
But he also sent His Son, to Judge the wicked who would not repent.
2 Peter 2:9 AV
9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
The two scenes:
Lots and His family in Sodom with the angels ofering salvation from the coming Judgment.
To Sinners in the world with Jesus offering salvation from the coming judgemnt.
They are in perfect paralell - Which is why Jesus tells us: remner Lots Wife.
Ok Zo what Happend to her?
Genesis 19:15–16 AV
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. 16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
Genesis 19:24–26 AV
24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
What a tradgic end, but why did it end this way?
Lets look at Lots wife: Was she in the city? No, she was outside. So was she numbered amount the wicked in the city? No. But did she escape? No.
And that must make us think hard about why? This makeds Jesus words all the more imposrynat: Rember Lots Wife.
Because Lots Wife remeinds me, that I can be amoung the righteousous, counted amoung them - and still die the death of the wicked.
What was her great downfall? What was it about her actions that Jesus wants us to remeber?
That She looked back.
Jesus had already warned:
Luke 9:62 AV
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
So what is “looking back” and why is it so dangerious and How can we avoid it?

Looking Back

Toanswer these questions we need to play a bit of a detective game:
What did Lots wife look back too?
She looked back to Sodom - The place God had already warned her he hated and would destroy.
God has already promised that he destory the world.
1 John 2:16–17 AV
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Next what is ment by the word “look”?
Well it does mean a mere look with the eyes, its to look at something with the heart.
For example:
Hebrews 12:2 AV
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Is this verse telling us to look at Jesus with our eyes? no, its telling us to look at him with our hearts in faith - its telling us to set our minds, our devotions, our trust upon Him.
And so in the same way, Lots wife ‘s look, was not a glace with her eyes, its was a look of longing in her heart.
There werer things in Sodom she was going to miss.
The sexualy devency, the immorality, the frrdom to lust after whoever you wanted....
Lots wife, may have been running away from Sodom with her feet, but she was runningtowards it in her mind, her heart and her attitude.
The point is crystal clear: Lots wife loved sodom.
And so in light of her terrible fate, we are told:
1 John 2:15 AV
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Lots wifes love for Sodom, caused her to heart to remain in Sodom.
Matthew 6:21 AV
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Jesus tells us:
Luke 17:28–32 AV
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. 31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. 32 Remember Lot’s wife.
I want to draw your attention to verse 31
the person on the rooftop and the person in the field.
they, Like lots wife were instantly faced with a decision.
The man on the roof and the man in the field both had things they cared about in the house. It does not matter what it was.
But Jesus appeared. and we are commanded:
Hebrews 12:2 AV
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
So their problem was that in order to retrive the things in the house, they would have to take their eyes off jesus and look back.
The tghings in the house are not only materialist, they are simply worldly.
Esteem, reputation, power, authority, influence, persona, status.
They are things like, acahol, drugs, fornication, pornography.
And Yes, excessive materialims is also included, A mans life does not consist of abundance of possesions.
These all add up to worldly attractions that :
1: Have no place being the christian house, life anyway.
2: But, also keep us distraced and acnchored in a world which we are not a part of.
Our affections, should be in Heaven.
Colossians 3:2 AV
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
