Yesterday, in a workshop, I was working with a small group of people around the search for meaning in congregations. I’ve been fascinated recently to discover that, in congregations, there is a longing for a renewed understanding of the meaning of their life in the community in which they are situated. It’s not enough anymore to say “Our church is a wonderful family!” For the most part, churches who say that don’t know or admit that dysfunctional families exist, often say the same. - William Phillips, Principal, Vancouver School of Theology, The 1997 Annual Conference: Keynote Addresses
