2 Timothy 3:15–17 KJV 1900
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Paul is writting to Timothy about the authority of the Scripture
Notice what he says in verse 15
2 Timothy 3:15 KJV 1900
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
From the point Timothy was a little Child his mother and grandmother taught him the holy scriptures, the sacred writings.
This was the Old testement,
Notice what it says in the next sintence
“Which were able to make thee wise unto salvation”
There is enough in the Old testement to become a believer.
The context here is Timothy is a yong pastor and some were questioning the gospels as not Part of Scripture
Therfore Paul goes on to say
2 Timothy 3:16–17 CSB
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
All scripture is:
Inspired
Profitable for teaching
Profitble for Rebuking
Profitble for correcting
Profitble for training in righteosness
All Scripture
Paul moves from the Holy writings (The Old Testement) to all scripture
The entire scripture leaving nothing out!
All Scripture is Inspired
Litterlly means God breathed
Paul is instructing timothy The Scripture is from God, although God used men to produce scripture the ultimate origin was God
2 Peter 1:20–21 KJV 1900
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
God Did not place People in a trace to Write Scripture they wrote in there own words as moved by God
All Scripture is Profitable
Scripture is valuable because it corrects false teaching while Building up believers to live Godly lives
All Scripture is Profitble for Teaching
The Primary resource for all Christian Teaching is THe Word of God
THis is not to say we can’t use other things but they must all be baced upon the Word of God
All Scripture is Profitble for Correcting
To rebuke false teachers and amonish those who Belive in there teaching we are to use the Word of God
Always turn to scripture on these matters
Profitble for Training in richousness
THis is training in doing what is right or what is in accordence with Godlyness.
If we follow theese instructions We will be equipped to do good works
Scripture is a gift to Gods People and Paul is telling Timothy here it is not up to him or the belivers to do ggod works on their own but scripture was provided for them to do good works in the name of Christ
Titus 3:1 KJV 1900
1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
Ephesians 2:10 KJV 1900
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Eph
2 Timothy 2:21 KJV 1900
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
Good works do not save, but we ought to be doing them
Christ did not leave the realy church without resources and he cirtenly does not leave us
The Bible is true and is as Profitble today as it was when Paul wrote this letter to Timothy
Notice what Hebrews tells us
Hebrews 4:12 ESV
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Heb
The word of God is not some dead book that does not matter, it Is living and active
It divides all Parts of the Human Being
The Body
The Soul
The Spirit
The Bible is a true factual book and we need to let it work in our lives!

Background on how we Know the Bible is true outside the Bible

Original writing The Old testement was written in Hebrew and Arimaic The New testement was written in Koine greek The Oldest parts of the Bible were written 3,500 years ago So How can we trust a book that was written so long ago? CannonicityThousand of prophisies have come true The dead sea scrolls and even secular History Prove over and over again the accurecy of The Bible There simply is not time this morning to completly flesh this all out but we are going to do our best Before we get into the text lets look at theese three proofs Canonicity Some liberals claim:The Bible is not totally inspiredSome claim that the enite Bible is fiction Others claim that The whole Bible is true except for Genisis Others claim that the letters are fiction any many other different views on which parts are not fact If any part of the Bible is not true it Brings the whole Bible into question So, What is Canonicity -This is a relly breif overview -The cannon is the 66 books in our Bible and are the only inspired books The word cannon comes from greek and herbrew words that litterally means a measuring rod. Therfore canonicity describes the standard that books had to meet to be reconized as scripture To determine the cannon Early Christians gathered together at church councils in the first several ceturies for the puropse of officially reconizing books as inspired they simply reconized what God had already determined Tests of Canonicity The Test of Divine Insperation-Does it claim to be divinely inspired? Is it inspiredTHe test of Human authorship-Is the book Written by an accredited agent of God such as a prophet, christ, or one of His apposles If not, did the writer have the gift of prophecy (David, Daniel) or a relation to a prophet or an apostle (Mark, Luke) Can the book be traced back to the time and/or the writer from who it professes to have come? The Test of AuthenticitIs the book factually true? It is noteworthy that Bible authors did not use the false philosophical and scientific opinions of their times. The Test of TestimonyWas the book universally recognized by the Jews and/or by the Christian church as being God's Word? Does the Holy Spirit bear witness to the regenerated reader that the book is His Word? The Test of Agreement Does the book agree doctrinally with the teachings of known canonical books? While there is progression in the Bible's revelation of doctrine, there is no contradiction. Is the content of the book of such spiritual character that it is in harmony with the dignity and majesty of God? Examples of writings that fail theese testsThe Apprcropha The Gospel of THomus Where Jesues goes around casting spells on his friends THousands of Prophisees have Come true THe Fall of Tyre In 597 BC Ezekial Predicted the folowing about Tyre Nebuchadnezzar would destroy villagesHe would build a seige moundmany nations would would attack tyrethe city would be flattened like a rock stones timber and soil would be thrown into the sea. at the time Tyre was one of the most secure and weathiest in the entire world massive walls surounded the city and they even had an island city so that they had a place to escape to if under seige Secular History Nebichadnezzer came up against the city after he built a seige mound the people moved out to the island city and he could not attack it in 330 B.C. Alexander the great attacked again the inhabitints moved out to the island city Alexander wanted the island city too so he took the rocks timbers and soil and dumped them inot the sea and made a bridge to the island city. This prediction was more than 250 yers in the futureThe only way it could have been made was through Divine assistence The Fall of Babylon Babilon was also at the time of the Prophecy one of the richest cities in the world the walls were 75 ft thick and 300 ft high it was surounded by the great river euphrates that made a moat around the city that was as much as 250ft across Jeremiah and Issiah prophisied the end to Babylon
KJV 19009 For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon An assembly of great nations from the north country: And they shall set themselves in array against her; From thence she shall be taken: Their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; None shall return in vain.
KJV 190036 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will plead thy cause, And take vengeance for thee; And I will dry up her sea, And make her springs dry.
KJV 190038 A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: For it is the land of graven images, And they are mad upon their idols.
KJV 190039 In their heat I will make their feasts, And I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, And sleep a perpetual sleep, And not wake, saith the Lord.
Secular History The euphraties river went under the city The King of the meeds and The persions redirected the river to cause it to go into a bason and marched his troops under the wall of the city When he did this the Babylonians were drunck and feasting the City was taken Theese are just two examples of Prophest yet every single Prophesy found in scripture has taken place The Finding of the Dead sea Scrolls The dead sea scrolls were found in caves on the dead sea between 1947-1956 They have been dated to around 408-318 BC making them the oldest manuscrips we have The Issiah scroll found relitivly intact is 1000 years older than any previously know coppy making them the oldest group of the old testement found there was a total of 870 seperate scrools found They are mostly Hebrew but but there are many written in Aramaic. Aramaic was the common language of the Jews of Palestine for the last two centuries B.C. and of the first two centuries A.D. The discovery of the Scrolls has greatly enhanced our knowledge of these two languages. In addition, there are a few texts written in Greek. They were divided into two categoriesBiblicalNon Biblical Fragnents of every book (except Ester) In the Hebrew Cannon were found The non biblical writings wererule books of the communitywar conductthanksgiving psalmshymnic compositionsbenedictionsliturgical textssapiential (wisdom) writings. The dead sea scrols were one of the greatest finds in modern times and sowed us that The Bible we have today says the same thing as it did way back in 408 B.C.
