Review - Make Room 4 Me 1

I am Leaving (cont.)

“Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward and said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.'" And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?"

But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. What is your judgment?" They answered, "He deserves death."”‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:59-66‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭132:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“"The priest who is chief among his brothers, on whose head the anointing oil is poured and who has been consecrated to wear the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose nor tear his clothes.”

‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭21:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

At last, Caiaphas, raising his right hand toward heaven, addressed Jesus in the form of a solemn oath: “I adjure Thee by the living God, that Thou tell us whether Thou be the Christ, the Son of God.” DA 706.3
To this appeal Christ could not remain silent. There was a time to be silent, and a time to speak. He had not spoken until directly questioned. He knew that to answer now would make His death certain. But the appeal was made by the highest acknowledged authority of the nation, and in the name of the Most High. Christ would not fail to show proper respect for the law. More than this, His own relation to the Father was called in question. He must plainly declare His character and mission. Jesus had said to His disciples, “Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before My Father which is in heaven.” . Now by His own example He repeated the lesson.
Hereafter,” said Jesus, “shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” In these words Christ presented the reverse of the scene then taking place. He, the Lord of life and glory, would be seated at God's right hand. He would be the judge of all the earth, and from His decision there could be no appeal. Then every secret thing would be set in the light of God's countenance, and judgment be passed upon every man according to his deeds. DA 707.3
The words of Christ startled the high priest. The thought that there was to be a resurrection of the dead, when all would stand at the bar of God, to be rewarded according to their works, was a thought of terror to Caiaphas. He did not wish to believe that in future he would receive sentence according to his works. There rushed before his mind as a panorama the scenes of the final judgment. For a moment he saw the fearful spectacle of the graves giving up their dead, with the secrets he had hoped were forever hidden. For a moment he felt as if standing before the eternal Judge, whose eye, which sees all things, was reading his soul, bringing to light mysteries supposed to be hidden with the dead. DA 708
ink ye?” And they all condemned Him. DA 708.2
Conviction mingled with passion led Caiaphas to do as he did. He was furious with himself for believing Christ's words, and instead of rending his heart under a deep sense of truth, and confessing that Jesus was the Messiah, he rent his priestly robes in determined resistance. This act was deeply significant. Little did Caiaphas realize its meaning. In this act, done to influence the judges and secure Christ's condemnation, the high priest had condemned himself. By the law of God he was disqualified for the priesthood. He had pronounced upon himself the death sentence. DA 708.3

EGW Reference to Tore Robe

A high priest was not to rend his garments. By the Levitical law, this was prohibited under sentence of death. Under no circumstances, on no occasion, was the priest to rend his robe. It was the custom among the Jews for the garments to be rent at the death of friends, but this custom the priests were not to observe. Express command had been given by Christ to Moses concerning this. . DA 708.4

Everything worn by the priest was to be whole and without blemish. By those beautiful official garments was represented the character of the great antitype, Jesus Christ. Nothing but perfection, in dress and attitude, in word and spirit, could be acceptable to God. He is holy, and His glory and perfection must be represented by the earthly service. Nothing but perfection could properly represent the sacredness of the heavenly service. Finite man might rend his own heart by showing a contrite and humble spirit. This God would discern. But no rent must be made in the priestly robes, for this would mar the representation of heavenly things.

The high priest who dared to appear in holy office, and engage in the service of the sanctuary, with a rent robe, was looked upon as having severed himself from God. By rending his garment he cut himself off from being a representative character. He was no longer accepted by God as an officiating priest. This course of action, as exhibited by Caiaphas, showed human passion, human imperfection. DA 709.1

Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:65‬ ‭ESV‬‬

.

By rending his garment he cut himself off from being a representative character. He was no longer accepted by God as an officiating priest. This course of action, as exhibited by Caiaphas, showed human passion, human imperfection.

Each action of the high priest was watched with interest by the people; and Caiaphas thought for effect to display his piety. But in this act, designed as an accusation against Christ, he was reviling the One of whom God had said, “My name is in Him.” . He himself was committing blasphemy. Standing under the condemnation of God, he pronounced sentence upon Christ as a blasphemer. DA 709.3

The Curtain of Separation Separated

“And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!"” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭15:37-39‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The Story Doesn’t End at the Death

What is Christ Doing in Heaven Now?

Why is He not Here with Us?

What more needs to take place?

Are there More Miles to Cover?

Jesus is a man of His Own Word.

(NKJV) 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.

New King James Version (NKJV)

41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.

Christ Our High Priest

“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,

but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:14-16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:14-16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Christ was made High Priest

“So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"; as he says also in another place, "You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek."” ‭Hebrews‬ ‭5:5-6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5:5-6‬ ‭ESV‬‬
While other priests’ services end at their death Christ’s High Priest continues: ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭7:23-25‬

“The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.

Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭7:23-25‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭7:23-25‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Where is this High Priest?

“Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭8:1-2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭8:1-2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Christ was both the Sacrifice and the High Priest :

“But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation)

he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:11-12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:11-12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

A Will Illustration

“For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive.” ‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:16-17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:16-17‬ ‭ESV‬‬
Remember the Prodigal son.

The inheritance was to be given at the death but because of his sinful desires he received it before the owner’s death.

,

16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him

After Ascension

Christ did not go on a heavenly vacation

“For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.” ‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Christ’s death Once and for All.

“Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world.

But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:25-26‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:25-26‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”Hebrews‬ ‭9:27-28‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:27-28‬ ‭ESV‬‬

One and Only Mediator

“This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.”‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:3-6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:3-6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

MEDIATOR one who mediates betw. two parties to remove a disagreement or reach a common goal, mediator, arbitrator

one who mediates betw. two parties to remove a disagreement or reach a common goal, mediator, arbitrator

God had no pleasure in animal sacrifices but needed a body:

“When he said above, "You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings" (these are offered according to the law), then he added,

"Behold, I have come to do your will." He does away with the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:8-10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:8-10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:12-14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:12-14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds," then he adds, "I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more." Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.” Hebrews‬ ‭10:16-18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:16-18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Warning!!!

This once and for all sacrifice does not mean continue to sin…

“For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.”‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:26-27‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:26-27‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Our following our desires to sin affirms our allegiance to being with his adversaries.

God will have vengeance on those who killed his son.

God will have vengeance on those who killed his son.

“For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge his people." It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:30-31‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:30-31‬ ‭ESV‬‬

So who do you want to make room for you,

Satan God’s Enemy Or Christ God’s Son

Or
Christ God’s Son

So how do we demonstrate that we want a room with Christ?

Our compassion for others and our suffering for the cross demonstrates our alliance with Christ Jesus.

“But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated.

For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.

For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For, "Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him."

But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.”Hebrews‬ ‭10:32-39‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:32-39‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This attitude of self pleasure, self gratification, self self self is demonstrating that we are not of Christ because Christ Gave of Him Self for us…

Both the Lamb and The High Priest

But when He returns He will come back not as a sacrifice, not as a mediator but as King of Kings,

10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.

11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Christ is going beyond the extra mile for us? Can we go beyond the extra mile for others?

So do you really want a room?

So do you really want a room?
