2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV
9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
grace
noun
1. simple elegance or refinement of movement."she moved through the water with effortless grace".
2. (in Christian belief) the free and unmerited favour of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings.
Now going back to what Paul was told by Jesus. Jesus told Paul that basically there is nothing you can do or be that will or can make your life right with God. Paul you have killed the innocent, you have learned all that a religious person can learn, you have become the most religious of the all the religious, you have tried to live right and journeyed down all the right paths. Paul you look like a rock star but the only thing you really need is me. Paul needed see the real Jesus so he could find God, so he could receive life. Not what the world offers, but a life found only in God.
Now this so opposite to how the world works. In the world you need to get this life thing figured out on your own. You need to walk the right path, go to the right school, get the right job, and get the right circle of friends. Oh it’s true that may take you feel like you have it figured out but the truth is all this will never help you find true life. If you do all the world says do it, the way they say to do it or do things just right they will tell you, “well maybe you can be one of us and maybe not”. There is so many ways so many paths in this world but they will not guarantee anything.
But Jesus has a different approach. Jesus says this
Luke 4:18 NKJV
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
Jesus came to set us free from all the trappings of the world and this is what we call grace and it is sufficient for you. It is enough for you and me.
I have met so many people who think they aren't good enough or know enough or that they aren't old enough or some other thing that they has been put in their head by the world. But what I have learned from Jesus is that all that matters is what he did for you and me. And all we must do is accept the gift he has offered.
That's grace.
Not what you have done or are doing. Not how many times you have read the bible or haven't read the bible, not because you are such a nice person or that you are a obvious failure at life. It is not about your ability to do it all but rather that Jesus’ grace is enough.
It doesn't get much better in this life. Here is how you find the grace or receive the grace of God. It is the good news.
Romans 10:9–13 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
How can it be so easy? It’s not that easy. What? It isn’t. If it was easy then why would we need Jesus. But here is the way it works, by the miracle that happened on the cross and the resurrection of Jesus on the thrid day, God made it possible. So it is a miracle, the miracle of grace of God.
Matthew 19:26 NKJV
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
No matter who you are, no matter what you have done, no matter where you've been, no matter what sin you have committed.
The impossible made possible. The hard made easy. The unbelievable made believable. Because of the grace of God.
Remember this simple thing. Jesus is saying to you “My grace is sufficient, with God nothing is impossible. All you must do is accept my gift that comes from what I accomplished on the cross and through my resurrection.”
Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
