The Miracle We Need

Mark 2:1-12

• The miracles of Jesus Christ

• “A new teaching with authority” (Mark 1:27)

• “I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one ‘go’ and

he goes; and that one, ‘come’ and he comes.” (Matthew 8:9)

It is a miracle when sin is forgiven.

Forgive = aphiemi – to send, carry away

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins

and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

It is a miracle when people of faith care for the lost.

Love is the highest miracle. 1 Corinthians 13

It is a miracle when Jesus is recognized as God.

Stubbornness of the “teachers”

“Heavy to light” reasoning

Matthew 16:16-17

16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ,[a] the Son of the living God."

17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to

you by man, but by my Father in heaven.

Scriptures for today’s sermon…

Mark 2:1-2

1A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had

come home. 2So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door,

and he preached the word to them. 3Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic,

carried by four of them. 4Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd,

they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered

the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. 5When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the

paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."

6Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7"Why does

this fellow talk like that? He's blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"

8Immediately Jesus
