Reaching the Next Generation
In Mark 6:30–44, this passage details one of Jesus’ greatest miracles, apart from the Resurrection, because this miracle is recorded in all four Gospels
A key verse to focus on today is verse 37: “You Feed Them”
You feed them
Jesus placed the responsibility of the group being fed on His disciples.
This provided them the opportunity to put their faith in God’s leadership of their lives, believe in God to do great things in and through them, and build confidence that God would come through.
This account is more than people being fed; it is an account that God desires to use every person who loves Him.
God is intent that we would see the needs of people and minister to them—to see what God sees and hear what God hears, and respond.
As we respond, needs are met, lives are changed, and God becomes known to others in a personal way.
This is our Opportunity
++Show God’s Love
++Meet Community Needs
++Make God Real to Others
One such opportunity we have as a church is to show God’s love to our schools.
When we meet the needs of the community, lives are changed and the gospel becomes real as it is demonstrated to others.
Why are our local schools so important and strategic for us as a church?
Why must we Love our Schools?
++School Connects Our Community
The school is the hub for student, family, and the broader community connections.
If we desire to reach our community, reaching our schools must be part of what we do.
Why must we Love our Schools?
School Connects Our Community
++School represents about 20% of our community
Because with just students and school faculty and administration, at least 20 percent of one’s community is gathered at the school every weekday.
Why must we Love our Schools?
School Connects Our Community
School represents about 20% of our community
++School is an areas largest employer
(Share the conversations you have had with a local school and introduce what you aim to do as a congregation to serve your schools).
God has blessed us as a church so that we can in turn bless others, especially as we recognize needs and respond.
Principles From the Passage
++God desires to work in the lives of others through you.
(v.
30–34)
• Jesus and His disciples did not intend to stop.
They were looking for a place to rest, but people were running ahead of them.
They were not going to just get away.
• Interruptions are not an inconvenience.
Some of the greatest ministry moments as a church and individually come in interruptions.
• Jesus had compassion and welcomed them.
(34) f Although Jesus could have answered the need directly himself, He involved the disciples in finding a solution.

++Our own resources and strength is never enough (35-37)

• Phillip gave them the cost of this miracle—half of a day’s wage.
Phillip unintentionally began to dampen the faith of others.
This is an example of why we must be careful with our words.
• Speak words of faith!
The words we say have a huge impact.
Speak your belief that God will do miracles and that He can and will do a work in your home and your workplace.
• The disciples were coming off a season of numerous miracles.
This is a big lesson for us.
If we don’t remember the miracles God has done in the past or talk about what He is currently doing, we won’t have the faith to see God do miracles in and through us now!
Principles From the Passage
God desires to work in the lives of others through you.
